An Evening for the Heart – Film and Talk with the Gerald Asamoah Foundation at GISA
On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, the Swiss Club of the German International School Accra became a place of moving encounters, heartfelt gratitude, and lived humanity. At the invitation of the Gerald Asamoah Foundation for Children with Heart Conditions, representatives of the foundation, members of the organization kinderherzen e.V., volunteer doctors and nurses, members of the GISA school community, guests from the German community – and with special honor, the German Ambassador to Ghana, Daniel Krull – gathered for a meaningful evening.
At the center of the event was the short film “Ways of the Heart”, produced during the medical mission to Accra in November 2024. The film offers a powerful portrayal of the foundation’s life-saving work, which has been carried out in cooperation with kinderherzen e.V. since 2023. Together with local hospitals and a volunteer team of German medical professionals, the foundation regularly travels to Ghana to perform heart surgeries on children in need.
The film provided deep insight into the medical, logistical, and emotional dimensions of the mission – and visibly moved the audience. In the following talk, doctors, nurses, coordinators, and directly involved individuals shared their experiences, clearly illustrating the passion, dedication, and professionalism behind this extraordinary work.
A particularly emotional moment of the evening was a surprise appearance by a GISA student who had received life-saving surgery through the mission. Today, he attends GISA on a full scholarship. With heartfelt words and small gifts, he expressed his thanks to the doctors and nurses – and above all, to Gerald Asamoah himself.
GISA is proud to be part of this partnership. What began as a single encounter has grown into a close collaboration that extends far beyond medical support: a connection that brings hope, creates new opportunities – and touches hearts.
We extend our deepest thanks to everyone involved, especially the Gerald Asamoah Foundation, for this unforgettable evening. And we look forward to everything we can continue to achieve together – for the children of Ghana, for our society, and for a spirit of community rooted in true commitment.
