Participation

Building bridges by enhancing the school's vibrant atmosphere with parents actively participating in and contributing to school activities.
At the German International School Accra, we believe that education is most successful when it is built on a strong partnership between school and home. Parents, students, and staff work together to create a vibrant and supportive school community in which every child can thrive. Mutual trust, open communication, and active participation form the foundation of this collaboration.
Parents play an important role in many aspects of school life. Each class elects parent representatives who serve as a link between families, teachers, and school leadership, ensuring that parent perspectives are included in discussions and decision-making processes. In addition, the School Board is elected from within the parent community and plays a key role in guiding the strategic development of the school.
Our twice-weekly Parent CafΓ© provides a welcoming space for parents to meet, exchange ideas, and build connections within the school community. It is particularly valuable for new families, helping them settle into school life, establish friendships, and receive practical advice and support. German language courses for parents further strengthen engagement and enable families to participate even more actively in school life.
Many school events and activities are made possible through the dedication and support of our parents. Whether assisting with celebrations, cultural events, sports activities, fundraising initiatives, or special projects, parents make a significant contribution to the dynamic atmosphere and strong sense of community that characterise our school.
We place great importance on regular and meaningful communication between parents and educators. Parent-teacher conferences, learning development meetings, information evenings, and individual consultations ensure transparency and provide opportunities to support each child's learning journey together. This is complemented by our weekly newsletter, which keeps all families informed about current developments, upcoming events, and important school initiatives.
Through this close partnership between school and families, we create a community built on trust, commitment, and mutual respect. Together, we provide the best possible environment for our students to grow academically, socially, and personally and to develop into confident, responsible, and successful young people.
