Christmas Magic Under the Palm Trees – GISA Christmas Market Opens the Advent Season

Written on 30 November 2025

What a wonderful start to the festive season! On Saturday, 29 November 2025, our campus transformed for over four hours into a sparkling Christmas world – under palm trees, filled with the scents of baked goods and spices, joyful music, bright children’s eyes, and an atmosphere that built bridges between traditions and cultures.

More than 40 food and craft stalls offered everything the heart could wish for: handmade gifts, international delicacies, creative artworks – and of course a traditional mulled-wine stand that added to the festive mood. Visitors from all corners of the world filled the campus with a joyful mix of voices and languages – a true intercultural come-together. At times, some stalls were so crowded that it was difficult to pass through, a clear sign of the lively atmosphere and enthusiasm. In addition, a wide range of hands-on activities awaited our visitors. Dedicated staff members from Kindergarten and School – often supported by enthusiastic students – hosted numerous interactive stations, including face painting, games, a bowling alley, sports challenges, bracelet and Advent calendar crafting, and fun photo accessories. A special highlight was the humorous mockumentary about the Nativity in Bethlehem – a creative student project from Secondary School.

The stage program added to the Christmas atmosphere:
Class 7/8 opened the event with an impressive drumming and bell performance. The Kindergarten charmed the audience with Christmas songs and a joyful dance. The project group followed with beautifully performed German Christmas carols. As an emotional highlight, the dance club led by Adis presented a powerful rendition of “Hallelujah” – a moment that gave many in the audience goosebumps. And of course, Saint Nicholas himself made an appearance, bringing smiles to young and old alike.

A special encounter in front of the Swiss Club

Between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m., we welcomed two remarkable visitors in front of the Swiss Club:
Dieter Sehburger and Christoph Roller, who had arrived in Accra the previous day. The two cyclists – with their bicycles – are currently traveling on their Peace Bike Tour from Germany and Switzerland all the way to Madagascar. Under the motto “give me 30 seconds,” they collect voices and thoughts on one central question: What does peace need? Their short stop with us offered inspiring insights and added an international touch to our Christmas market – a thoughtful and meaningful element within the overall program.

Live music for the perfect atmosphere

The band Urban Gruve provided a lively musical backdrop that gave the market its very special flair.

What remains is a deep sense of gratitude. Gratitude for this wonderful opening to the Advent season, for a celebration that strengthened our community and built cultural bridges.

A heartfelt thank you to all parents, to the Parents’ Association, to our dedicated staff members, to our students, and to every helping hand who contributed to making this Christmas Market such a memorable experience.

We are already looking forward to the next festive celebration under the palm trees! 🎄✨
