End-of-Year Celebration 2025 – Talents, Gratitude, and Heartfelt Farewells

Written on 20 June 2025

On June 19, 2025, the German International School Accra came together at the Swiss Club to celebrate the end of a remarkable school year – a joyful and moving event filled with creativity, appreciation, and a sense of community.

A special highlight of the evening was the premiere of “GISA Got Talent”, showcasing students from Kindergarten to Secondary School. Dancers, magicians, singers, and musicians took the stage and amazed the audience with their talent and courage. The show was charmingly hosted by Sophie Bladt and Canice Kurta (Grade 7). A four-member jury from Grade 7 offered humorous, heartfelt, and thoughtful commentary. The winners of the evening were Zoe, Nana Adboa (Grade 6), and Mia (Grade 2) – three outstanding young performers who won over the crowd with creativity and confidence.

In his annual address, Headmaster Rainer Kropp-Kurta reflected on a school year full of highlights: major events such as “Made in Ghana”, “Made in Germany”, the festive Christmas Market, and the lively musical “Hercules” were among the many memorable moments. The school also welcomed distinguished guests like Gerald Asamoah, former German President Christian Wulff, and boxing world champion Freddy Kiwitt. At the same time, the headmaster emphasized the importance of the smaller moments – class trips, camps, project times, and everyday interactions that make GISA such a vibrant community.

The school also made significant progress in its development: the introduction of the Support Band, Project Time, and especially the new Excellence Scholarship Initiative opened up new opportunities for individual growth. A major milestone was the school’s official recognition as a Campus School of the University of Potsdam, highlighting GISA’s role in international teacher education. And the numbers speak for themselves: enrollment grew from 102 students in August 2024 to 127 in June 2025 – an increase of nearly 25%.

“None of this would have been possible without our amazing team,” Kropp-Kurta emphasized. With a sweet and thoughtful gesture, he thanked all 44 staff members for their dedication and heart. A heartfelt round of applause was also given to Irina Wehmann and her team, who concluded two years of impactful work at the school – two years of magical transformation.

A special thank-you was extended to the committed fathers André Maaß and Sheel Shetty, whose hard work brought to life the school’s new playground in beehive design – a natural and imaginative space now joyfully used by the children each day.

The emotional highlight of the evening came with the heartfelt farewells of students, families, and teachers leaving the school. Between warm words and a few well-earned tears, “Souly Bird” – also known as Franziska Jebens – performed her touching song “Grateful”. As a departing longtime GISA parent, she dedicated the piece to both Ghana and GISA – a musical tribute to growth, connection, and gratitude. Her performance struck a deep chord and perfectly captured the spirit of the day.

With full hearts and beautiful memories, the GISA community heads into the summer break – grateful for all that has been and looking forward to all that lies ahead.
