German Connects: From Language to Opportunity

On Saturday, 31 October 2026, the German International School Accra will once again become a meeting place for German language, culture, education and Ghanaian-German exchange. From 3 to 6 PM, we will celebrate German Language Day under this year’s motto: “German Connects: From Language to Opportunity.”

The motto captures what our school stands for. German is much more than a subject taught in the classroom. Language brings people together, provides access to education and university studies, creates professional opportunities and connects people across countries and cultures. Here in Ghana in particular, learning German can become a bridge to new experiences, networks and possibilities.

Making Learning Visible

An important part of this is our project time. It is firmly embedded in everyday learning at the German International School Accra and gives our students the opportunity to work creatively and independently beyond traditional subject boundaries.

Primary students have two project sessions each week, while Secondary students have one. Over several weeks, students explore different aspects of Germany, the German language and culture and develop projects that go beyond the classroom. Their work leads to presentations, exhibitions, performances and hands-on activities.

German Language Day provides a special stage for making this learning visible. Language meets art and music, history and culture, theatre, movement and creativity. Our students are not only learners on this day – they become hosts, presenters and active contributors to the programme.

Together with Team Germany

At the same time, German Language Day has grown into much more than an internal school event. Together with our partners from Team Germany, we want to highlight the many connections between Ghana and Germany and show the opportunities that can grow from them.

The Goethe-Institut, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the German Embassy Accra and the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Ghana (AHK Ghana) are part of this network. Their different perspectives on language, culture, academic exchange, higher education and professional opportunities demonstrate how learning a language can open very concrete pathways for the future.

Our growing network of schools, universities and other educational and cultural partners is also an important part of this idea. German Language Day is designed to bring people together, create new contacts and build new bridges.

Experience Language – Discover Opportunities

Visitors can therefore expect much more than a traditional information event. Student projects and presentations, language, music and culture, culinary experiences, interactive activities and information about educational and future opportunities will come together to create a lively and varied afternoon.

The event is not only for our own school community. We warmly welcome families, friends of the school, learners of German and guests from the wider Ghanaian-German community.

Our guiding principle, “Building Bridges”, will become very tangible on this day: bridges between school and society, between learning and the future, between Ghana and Germany – and, above all, between people.

We look forward to welcoming many guests for an inspiring, colourful and connecting afternoon at the German International School Accra.
