Musical "Hercules"
Report: School Musical “Hercules” at the German International School Accra
by Matt Alfa-Traore, Grade 7
On May 22, 2025, the Goethe-Institut was transformed into an ancient stage: 85 students brought the vibrant school musical “Hercules” to life – with impressive dedication, great talent, and a contagious enthusiasm for music and theatre.
The children and young people had spent months rehearsing, singing, building sets, and preparing costumes. The result was a colourful, musically captivating, and humorous interpretation of the famous Disney classic. From the youngest performers in supporting roles to the main characters like Hercules, Meg, and Hades – everyone played their part in drawing the audience into the world of Greek mythology.
Parents, teachers, friends, and guests of the school were thrilled by the energy and team spirit of the young performers. Especially impressive was the seamless interplay between acting, singing, dancing, and technical support – all managed by the students themselves, with guidance from the dedicated teaching staff.
What made this musical particularly special was the diversity that defines our school: students from different countries and with different native languages – German, English, French – came together on stage to show how inclusion and cultural variety are naturally lived at GISA. Everyone could contribute their strengths, regardless of their background or individual circumstances. The musical was a vibrant example of intercultural collaboration and community.
A special moment came with a greeting from afar: the cast of the “Hercules” musical in Hamburg, who had staged their own version, sent warm wishes and lots of encouragement – a wonderful gesture of international connection.
A huge compliment to everyone involved – this musical was a true highlight of the 2024/2025 school year!
