Newsletter 26.04.2024
Next week Sunday we will be hosting the GISA Cup for the first time and are delighted that 16 teams from different companies, institutions and embassies representing 12 nations will be taking part. Although the focus is on football, the GISA Cup is also a wonderful family event to spend a wonderful Sunday together with friends and family. In addition to delicious food and drink, we have organized great children's activities: A bouncy castle, craft fun, face painting and goal wall shooting will be available for the children from 10 am. Games on Wheels will also be on site with various activities. From 2.30 pm, we can look forward to live music from the BigBrainBand. You may remember the BigBrainBand from our Christmas market! You can also look forward to one or two surprises on the day. Feel free to share the event with friends and family as well as at your workplace. We are ready and looking forward to an exciting, eventful day with you.
We are currently interviewing some interesting and motivated new teachers who have a lot of experience with the British Cambridge curriculum. Since the GISA is still recognized by the Cambridge International Education Organisation, we also receive partnership support from the Cambridge Department of the Deutsche Höhere Privatschule (DHPS) Windhoek and have to establish compatibility with the national and international school system at the request of many parents, we will be able to offer this educational programme again from the coming school year in addition to the proven Thuringian educational plan. Further information will follow.
We are pleased to announce that from next week our school will be offering two meals from Paloma Hotel for our children to choose from. We believe this will make the children's meals more varied and exciting. Attached you can see the different options we will be offering our children. The price of the meals will not change and Abigail from Paloma will continue to be at the school on Monday and Friday mornings.
Kindergarten and Nursery:
This week in the mouse group we had some exciting activities around the topic of water. We experimented to find out what floats in water. The children had lots of fun and were able to learn through play. Of course, we also splashed around in the water! That was great fun! We also read the story “The little white fish”. An exciting story about a little fish looking for his mom. It was a very eventful and educational week!
This week, we continued to work on our topic “Professions”. We learned about the job of a farmer and thought together about what a farmer has to do on a farm. Afterwards, we also tried our hand at farming ourselves and sowed some seeds. We are excited to see how small plants will grow over the next few days. We also tried our hand at being architects and came up with and built small models. This resulted in many exciting buildings. We got to know the professions of fireman, dustman and scientist in short videos. During learning time this week, we played the word game “Hear the dog”, where we had to listen carefully and react quickly. We also repeated different colors and shapes and learned about “logic tables”. We also learned about waste separation this week. We created two posters for paper waste and residual waste and assigned different types of waste to the two garbage cans. On Friday we had our toy day. Together we tried out lots of different games, played basketball and drove around our groups in different vehicles. Next week, we will continue to learn about different new and exciting professions. We might even get a visit for this...
Primary School:
Class 1/2 worked very hard this week. Class 2 continued to work on multiplication, but also introduced semi-written subtraction. Class 1 enjoyed using the free work opportunities during learning time and chose meaningful work for themselves. They worked on puzzles, wrote stories or completed old assignments. In addition, the reading coloring books are very popular with some children and, more recently, the Lies-Rechne pages. Work on the topic of the human body, organs and digestion continued in the science lessons and in the English lessons the children created beautiful lapbooks about themselves. All in all, another good week in the new colorful classroom. For the calendar: Next swimming date on Friday, 3.5.24
The musical preparation is not only fun for the children in class 3/4, but also for all the other children. The enthusiasm for working on the various aspects of a musical (singing, dancing, stage design, technology, acting) is particularly noticeable in class 3/4. In class 3, the Vera comparative tests in German were written this week. An exciting experience for the children. The multiplication tables are crammed, trained, practised and addressed with various games in math lessons. The children in class 3/4 are getting better and better!
Secondary School:
Class 5/6 have been busy this week preparing for the Gisa Football Cup and the Musikal in addition to their curricular tasks. We are looking forward to these two major events in the coming weeks. In preparation, we continued to work on the goal wall, which will be used at the GISA Cup. Otherwise, Class 5/6 started this week in English with the book “There's a Boy in the Girls Bathroom” by Louis Sachar. The pupils are very enthusiastic about the book and had lively discussions about it. In German, the topics “School uniforms and the GISA” and “Fast food at school” were the subject of lively discussions and initial arguments were written. Similarities and differences between Germany and Ghana were on the agenda in geography lessons, while in history, hieroglyphics and pyramids took students back to ancient Egypt. In order to cover all topics in Year 5 and 6, math lessons continue to take place at different levels. While multiplication is repeated and deepened in Year 5, the class works on the decimal notation of numbers.
