Tropical Christmas magic: A celebration for the whole family
Last Saturday, the German International School Accra shone in Christmas splendour and hosted its annual Christmas market - a celebration that combined tradition with tropical flair. In warm temperatures and bright sunshine, visitors experienced a very special blend of traditional German Christmas magic and African warmth.
As soon as they entered the festively decorated school grounds, guests were greeted by Christmas music, the scent of gingerbread and mulled wine and a touch of Ghanaian lightness. Almost 50 lovingly decorated market stalls offered a wide range of handmade gifts, handicrafts and culinary delights - a treat for all the senses.
The school was particularly proud to welcome two prominent guests: The German ambassador Daniel Krull honoured the event with his presence. The Ghanaian national team coach Otto Addo also provided enthusiasm with his open and cordial manner.
The programme highlights included the traditional nativity play, which presented the Christmas story in an enchanting way, as well as energetic drum performances that blended African rhythms with the festive atmosphere. The Accragio choir and musical contributions from pupils provided unforgettable moments that put the audience in the Christmas spirit.
For the children, the day was a special adventure: craft stations, a gingerbread workshop and cheerful face painting conjured up beaming faces, while a visit from Father Christmas provided magical moments. The adults enjoyed the opportunity to discover unique Christmas gifts and purchase local products - or simply enjoy the relaxed atmosphere in tropical conditions.
The grand finale was a lively celebration with dancing and singing to the music of the talented BigBrain Band, who delighted the guests with their repertoire ranging from Christmas classics to modern hits.
