What a Week! – Gratitude and Appreciation for the Gerald Asamoah Foundation

Written on 07 November 2025

What a week of dedication, teamwork and true humanity! A moment to pause, reflect and say thank you.

On Monday, Gerald Asamoah was personally awarded the Federal Cross of Merit by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier – a great honour for his many years of commitment, among other things to children with heart disease. On Wednesday, “Sir” Gerald passed this recognition on to his team during an emotional celebration at the Swiss Club of the German International School Accra (GISA).

Throughout the week, the doctors, specialists and nurses from the Heart Center in Duisburg performed life-saving heart surgeries at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, completing 15 successful and partly complex operations by Thursday evening. The entire medical team volunteers their time and even uses their annual leave to make this mission possible. They stayed at the Asa Royal Hotel, which is also supported by Gerald Asamoah.

Gerald Asamoah expressed his gratitude by saying:

“This honour is not mine alone. It belongs to my team – people who give their hearts, their courage and their skills every year to bring hope and life to children in Ghana.”

Principal Rainer Kropp-Kurta emphasized the spirit of the partnership:

“This cooperation stands for what we live at GISA – building bridges, taking responsibility and sharing hope.”

A special highlight this year were the many content creators accompanying the mission, documenting the medical work and opening it up to new audiences while raising funds for the cause.

Heartfelt thanks also went to around 20 GISA parents, who visited the hospital daily with coffee, cakes, snacks and fruit – a simple but deeply appreciated gesture.

The week concluded with a celebration at the Swiss Club: finger food from North Ridge Café, refreshing drinks and live music by Urban Gruve set the tone for an evening full of gratitude, joy and shared purpose – looking back on a week that truly connected hearts.
