A Day at the Aburi Botanical Garden

Written on 07 November 2025

While the other classes set off in all directions, the students of Class 1/2 headed for the mountains – to the beautiful Aburi Botanical Garden.

Even the bus ride felt like a little adventure: in high spirits, with bright eyes and a touch of excitement, we made our way up into the green hills.

Once we arrived, we first enjoyed a cozy breakfast picnic in the shade of tall trees. Then our discovery tour began!

In two small groups, guided by our park guides Martin and Maxwell, we immersed ourselves in the fascinating world of the garden. At the mighty God Tree, we made our heartfelt wishes, cracked real nutmegs, and smelled their wonderfully spicy scent. Some of us even ended up with red fingers from rubbing the iron-rich leaves – which, as we learned, are traditionally used to cook a healthy soup!

One of the most impressive sights was the Tree of Life, a breathtaking wooden sculpture that seemed to grow right out of the earth. It showed people, animals, and plants all intertwined – a symbol of how everything in nature is connected. Standing before it, we felt both tiny and full of wonder, reminded that we, too, are part of this great circle of life.

Martin and Maxwell told us exciting stories and explained many interesting facts about the plants in the garden. We discovered that bromeliads are parasitic plants, that nutmeg trees can be male or female and must grow close together to bear fruit.

We also learned that monkeys may not be the smartest creatures – but they are definitely the greediest when it comes to food!

After our big exploration tour, there was still plenty of time to play, relax, and marvel at the nature around us. Over a shared lunch, we ended the day in a cheerful mood before the bus took us safely back home – filled with new impressions, fascinating stories, and lots of little discoveries.
