A Hands-On Day in the Wood Workshop
For nine students in the Wood Workshop project, the day began with an exciting trip to the military’s woodworking facility. We travelled there by bus, and because we spent quite some time in traffic, we had a little less time on site.
Andre Maaß guided us through the workshop. He explained different types of wood and the meaning of annual rings. He also showed us various tools such as the wood planer, chisel, and wood glue, as well as machines like the circular saw, jigsaw, thickness planer, and jointer.
We learned how to saw properly, making sure to keep a stable stance. We fixed the wood securely with a clamp. Sawing was a bit difficult at first, but we managed well. Three students were even allowed to use the handheld jigsaw to cut a round shape out of a piece of wood. We learned many new things during this activity.
A big thank you to Andre Maaß for showing us the workshop, and to Ms. Fredrich and Jonas for organising the trip.
