Making Progress in German – with Plenty of Poetry Along the Way
The week began with a big question-and-answer session: the Grade 5/6 students asked each other questions about texts they had previously worked on and tried to answer them as precisely as possible. This required not only factual knowledge and reading comprehension, but also careful listening and clear speaking.
One group then continued working on their poems for the upcoming Cultural Festival, while the other focused on creating learning posters and lapbooks. The aim was to present different grammar rules in a clear and accessible way – so that grammar would not just stay in their heads, but also take shape on paper.
Both learning groups were able to build on their growing knowledge of grammar. The A2 learners focused on the difference between adjectives in the nominative and accusative cases, while the B1 learners practised changing direct questions into indirect questions. Step by step, new knowledge is turning into greater confidence in using German.
There was also a little sadness this week as we said goodbye to our intern Patience Amankwah, who has supported us over the past few months with great motivation, enthusiasm and a healthy dose of Hamburg humour. Dear Patience, thank you very much for the wonderful time together, for your support and for your patience – especially when German grammar once again needed a little longer to show its more understandable side. We will miss you!
