“United by football. United in the heart of Accra” was the motto of the GISA Cup, which was organized by the German International School Accra for the first time on the occasion of the European Football Championship taking place in Germany again after 36 years. 19 teams from embassies, NGOs and companies answered the call and determined a deserving winner on May 5, 2024. The trophy was presented to Team Portugal by guest of honor Augustine Ahinful, who, in addition to playing for Ghana's national team, the Blacks Stars, also laced up his football boots for Borussia Dortmund and Grashoppers Zurich. Tournament director and teacher Patrick Blanke-Schelle was impressed by the atmosphere of the tournament: “It's fantastic to see how football brings people together.” Portugal beat Ethiopia in an exciting final in a seven-meter shoot-out. In the match for third place, Equatorial Guinea also won in a shoot-out against Ghana Fairafric. A family-friendly festival was organized around the tournament, with activities for children, goal wall shooting, live music and various culinary offerings. Many thanks go to the main organizers Patrick Blanke-Schelle, Agnithur Amponsah Boateng, Sara Debackere and Katharina Kaufmann, but also to the entire, highly committed GISA team.
There was a big disappointment at the beginning of the week, as the GISA Cup KIDS Edition could not take place due to the betting conditions. This will now be rescheduled for Tuesday, 14.05.2024.

Kindergarten and nursery:
Last week, we made some great presents for our moms in the crèche! We also played, danced and sang a lot. Next week we will start with the topic of the body.
Another exciting week lies behind us. We have had many interesting discussions with parents and would like to remind you that the next discussions are due next week. The children have had a varied week with different activities. With Irina, we designed chairs with our handprints. On Wednesday we spontaneously had a water day and had lots of fun. We spent most of the days in the sunny garden and did lots of arts and crafts. We also experienced exciting things in the exercise room with Rudi. Finally, we had our toy day on Friday, where we shared our toys and played together.
Primary school:
Chess fever has broken out in class 1/2 this week. The children are learning from each other and are enthusiastic about playing chess. The story fire has also been rekindled. This week it was about exciting chases between wolves and deer or between jaguars and koalas. In another story, a playground was built inside a house - nice idea. The multiplication tables in Year 2 are still being diligently filled with signatures. Puzzles are also very popular with many children. In Science, the topic of “healthy eating” was dealt with by first discussing the food pyramid. The children are also working on their “healthy eating books”.
What a start - with enthusiasm, anticipation and high expectations of our soccer skills, class 3/4 started on Monday morning... and then - rain! The postponement of the GISA Children's Cup was not easy to accept. From then on, however, the week went steeply upwards, learning and living. Working on Mother's and Father's Day gifts and cards was the main topic in art lessons and study times. The progress on the musical, which is now clearly visible, was also motivating. The class is looking forward to the next few weeks with expectation and open eyes - there is still a lot to do before the summer vacations!
Secondary school:
There was a big disappointment at the beginning of the week as the GISA Cup for schools could not take place due to the betting conditions. This will now take place on 14.05. On Sunday, numerous pupils were present at the GISA-CUP. During the CUP, the pupils of class 5/6 were in charge of the goal wall and used it to fill up the class. The rest of the week was plagued by illness.
