After a long Whitsun weekend, this school week quickly came to an end. As always, we have compiled a list of the fun and exciting activities of the individual learning groups for you, including class breakfasts, surfing trips, pottery courses and experiential education.

3The children from Chance for Children and the German International School Accra met three times this year for a series of fun and meaningful activities. These meetings were more than just playdates; they were opportunities for learning, getting to know each other and building mutual respect. The first meeting set the tone for the collaboration, with games designed to get to know each other. There was much laughter and smiles as they engaged in creative crafts, made cookies to sell and rehearsed a dance together. The second meeting took place in Hebron, where our group had the opportunity to explore the school and each other's living environment. The children formed mixed teams, fostering a spirit of integration and cooperation. The friendly games were cheered and applauded, and the budding friendships and joy of shared experiences were evident. The final event was a special exchange visit during which they were able to evaluate the cooperation. This eye-opening experience helped the children to develop a deeper understanding of each other's everyday lives. The success of this collaboration would not have been possible without the dedicated efforts of the teachers from both organizations. Many thanks to Zakari and the team from Chance for Children as well as Sara Debackere and Patrick Blanke-Schelle!

It is foreseeable that the Swiss Club will not be able to be used by an external operator in the near future. However, the Swiss Club, including the kitchen, is available for internal school use. A committee made up of parents, teachers and pupils is now being set up to design and organize the Swiss Club. Parents who would like to get involved should contact David Jebens (parent representative) +233 55 978 0866 via WhatsApp with their name by Wednesday 29.05. 2024. The first meeting is planned for Monday 3.06. at 8 a.m. at the school.

SauberzauberBox Unboxing short v2 2With the aim of improving hygiene standards in public facilities for children, the WEPA Foundation and the initiative of former national soccer player and HSV president Marcell Jansen, HygieneCircle, will present the Sauberzauber Box as the first educational facility in Ghana on Monday, May 27, 2024. Educational institutions are often the first point of contact with public washrooms for children and young people. In addition to good hygiene standards, hygiene skills should ideally also be taught here. In order to bring this closer to the youngest children in kindergarten and elementary school, the Sauberzauber Box developed by the non-profit organization HygieneCircle, the WEPA Foundation and the Sauerland-based hygiene paper manufacturer WEPA Professional will be used for the first time in West Africa under the guidance of our kindergarten manager Rudi Boakye. The Sauberzauber Box is a practical application with teaching materials for teaching hand hygiene to children. The Clean Magic Box, developed by scientists, contains recycled towel paper, the so-called "tree protector paper", Clean Magic Soap, which is used to identify unwashed areas, and two experiments that playfully demonstrate the effect of soap. After completing the hand hygiene training, each child receives a Sauberzauber diploma. Starting from our school, the plan is to take the project to as many public schools in Ghana as possible.

As a professional photographer will be accompanying the campaign, it makes sense to take class photos on Monday, including for the 2023/24 yearbook. We will also let you know so that you can take this into account when choosing clothing at the beginning of the week.

Kindergarten and nursery:

e04b005d 12f1 4990 a953 dd1647e44deeLast week, we learned more about our bodies in the mice group. The children had lots of fun tracing their body outlines and then coloring them in. We also discovered our body parts with the help of various picture cards. To conclude our topic, we sang the songs 'Head, shoulders, knees and toes' and 'the song about me'. We had a very educational and entertaining week about our bodies. The children have learned a lot of new things about their own bodies. On Monday we start with our new topic 'Farm'!

This week, we completed our parent-teacher conferences at the kindergarten. We enjoyed the short week with lots of table games, creative painting and active movement in the garden. During learning time, we carried out the "Clean Magic" experiment and learned why it is important to wash our hands. We are very excited about Monday, because a camera team will be coming by to film us. We also went through a number trail and learned about the numbers from 1 to 10. We had our sports day on Friday. One group practiced yoga and the "sun salutation", while the other group enjoyed various movement games. Next week we will start with the topic "The human body and its senses".

Primary school:

The week got off to a great start for class 1/2 with a healthy breakfast in the classroom. The children enjoyed the table setting and showed off their excellent table manners. They also listened to some music while eating and quickly performed a little choreography to some of the songs. Various stories were also written again this week, paying attention to beautiful wording and different sentence beginnings. In math, there were mental arithmetic competitions using the website mathplayground.com. This site offers a wide range of exercises, also for use at home.

1000077044Class 3/4 had a very artistic short week. Our aquariums (class 3) and our representations of sunken ships (class 4) are taking shape. We hope to be able to show you our work soon. The pottery workshop by the Happy Arts Academy was the absolute highlight of the week. The children had great fun and the end products were fantastic. In the next two weeks, there will be some class tests in class 3/4, so academically we will be going full throttle again in the last few meters.

Secondary school:

After a long weekend, the Year 5 and 6 students started the week refreshed. The week began on Tuesday with normal lessons. In German lessons, the class is currently writing various reports about the many highlights of the current school year. The class completed the popular book from the English lessons and then had an intensive discussion about it. They also continued to work on the musical with joy and fun. Wednesday saw the excursion to Kokrobite, which the pupils thoroughly enjoyed. The agenda included swimming, surfing, bodayboarding, playing football, beach games and much more. Afterwards, the pupils went home satisfied and exhausted. On Thursday, the class had another visit from Chance for Children for this school year. There was a final reflection session with some cooperation games. Classes 5 and 6 wish everyone a relaxing weekend.
