Chance for Children

The partnership with Chance for children

Chance For Children is a Swiss/Ghanaian NGO and has been supporting street-connected children in Accra since 1999. The German International School Accra has been in a fruitful cooperation with Chance for children since 2015. Cooperating with Chance for Children definitely stresses our commitment to social responsibility and community engagement as a school.

The CFC team of 80+ staff has been serving directly and indirectly over 4000 street-connected children and their families in Ghana from 6 different locations. This year, CFC reached 3,350 children on the streets of Accra, Kumasi, Tamale, Dambai and Takoradi. There are 873 children supported and provided with education in their Drop-in Centre, in the Hebron Homes and in their families all over Ghana. 101 street-connected children were reunified with their families and 10 communities were impacted to establish more sustainable structures, including family savings plans and reduced migration of children.

Since 2020, CFC has employed an integrated approach of Street Work, Family Reunification, and Prevention Work in Communities to address the needs of street-connected children and their families. Based on the positive results, they are replicating their approach in the socio-cultural context of this location with a team of trained social workers who understand the socio-cultural environment.

Every school year, the school organizes a group of students who first works on the theme of street children in general and then connects it to the example of Accra and CFC's work. At the same time, CFC also puts together a group of children who meets up with our group of the school.

To give the GISA pupils a first impression, they visit CFC's day center at the beginning of the school year to familiarize themselves with the organization’s structures. This is followed by pedagogical visits to the residential home in Hebron and to GISA, where the groups get to know each other and connect through interactive activities.

Overall, the cooperation with Chance For Children offers numerous benefits for our school and Chance for Children, ranging from enriching educational experiences for students to GISA's commitment to social responsibility and community engagement. By partnering with Chance for Children, GISA not only makes a positive impact on the lives of street-connected children but also reinforces its commitment to supporting our children to become compassionate global citizens.
