Faces of Football e.V.
We support the pioneer of German women's football Petra Landers and her association Faces of Football e.V. in the promotion of girls' and women's football in Ghana.
On Wednesday, October 9, 2024, an all-day event took place at GISA as part of the AHK's “German Days”. This was in cooperation with the Sparkassenstiftung and “Faces of football e.V.”: A total of 30 girls aged 7-12 took part in the workshop. Soccer meets the world of finance - Sparkassenstiftung supported this project and its employees provided information and inspiration on the subject of money/saving/etc. In addition to some pupils from our school, representatives from our partner NGO Universal Wonderful Street Academy and our neighboring school in Nima, the Youngsters, also took part.
Why is football so important?
Sport is holistic - for body, mind and soul
The club was founded with the following motivation: As a former German national football player and passionate footballplayer, I was able to celebrate a number of sporting successes thanks to my fight and determination. Today, I want to pass on my experience and passion for football to girls and give them the same opportunities I was given. Football unites..... Girls come together, organize themselves as a team and pursue a common goal.
Faces of Football has set itself the goal of living a holistic approach and focusing on the advancement of women in particular. In order to implement this concept, attention is paid to both components. On the one hand, the girls are to be given the opportunity to develop team spirit, ambition and discipline through football, while at the same time professional prospects are to be offered in the form of workshops. In order for this concept to be realized, we would be delighted if YOU could support the girls' future in a positive way.
Football connects...
Faces of Football, a non-profit, mobile sfootball school. Mobile to reach children in remote places where there are neither established sports clubs nor pitches. Our commitment focuses on girls and young women in suburban areas of sub-Saharan Africa.
Girls often suffer forced marriages or early pregnancies due to discrimination against their rights, which makes it impossible for them to lead independent and self-determined lives. Faces of Football is committed to the empowerment of girls/women. In the project, football is used as a method for increasing self-confidence, self-esteem and learning leadership skills. The girls are also encouraged to start vocational training after school so that they can shape their own independent lives. Independent and self-determined. That is the philosophy of the association.
Together with the local NGO, girls and young women are invited to a soccer camp in their own village. Girls between the ages of 12 and 16, who have never played football before, can discover this game for the first time. With basic training, they find quick success and a lot of fun with the team in training. During this time, they are also given the opportunity and perspective to try out a trade in a practical workshop.
Petra Landers, pioneer of German women's football:
played football with the boys from around 1971.
1975 to the women's football club TuS Harpen.
Switched to SSG 09 Bergisch-Gladbach in 1981, unofficial world champion in Taiwan in the same year.
1982 Player of the 1st official women's national football team in November 1982, multiple German champion, DFB Cup winner.
1989 German European Champion.
2014-2019 Girls' and women's football in Zambia and Uganda via various organizations. organizations with projects.
2017 World record holder for the highest soccer match in the world. On Kilimanjaro at 5720 m according to FIFA rules, with 32 intern. football players 7 days ascent.
Protagonist in various documentaries: Die schönste Nebensache der Welt, Wir waren die Ersten, Das Wunder von Taipeh.
What seems self-evident to us in Germany and Europe is often just a dream for children in many places around the world. Girls in particular have few or no opportunities to learn a trade or play organized sport, and not just for cultural reasons.
In order to make Faces of Football e.V. sustainable, we are dependent on sponsors and donations. FoF is a non-profit organization and is allowed to issue donation receipts. We look forward to any response and interest, be it in the form of money or donations in kind. Every support helps!
