Playing instead of class exam?

Pupils in Year 5/6 used the knowledge they had acquired about the Stone Age in their history lessons to design creative Stone Age games. The third and fourth graders, in turn, were allowed to test these games and also evaluate them in the categories of fun, knowledge transfer and design. Instead of a conventional class test, this was a different form of performance assessment that also encouraged creativity, empathy and the practical application of what they had learned. The students also had to write game instructions and act as game hosts.
