468786224 972122854945923 4687303858156226737 nWith this newsletter from December 6, 2024, we wish you a happy St. Nicholas Day. Wolf's (class 6) picture made it into the official Advent calendar of the Central Agency for Schools Abroad (ZfA) today, congratulations!

20241205 090713Due to today being Farmer's Day, St. Nicholas came to visit the school yesterday. First, we all sang some Christmas carols together until Santa walked in the door! The children recited poems they had learned by heart and sang songs with a little dance to each receive a small bag filled with goodies from Santa. To top it all off, there was a delicious breakfast buffet with tasty rolls, pancakes, fruit and much more, which we enjoyed together!

We all hope that tomorrow's presidential election in Ghana will be peaceful and we are also assuming that school will continue to run smoothly in the last week of school before christmas break. Nevertheless, your children have been given some teaching materials to take home in case we have to switch to homeschooling at short notice. These assignments are explicitly not homework, please give them to your child to take back to school on Monday unless we inform you otherwise. Please check your school WhatsApp channels on Sunday. We are in contact with the German Embassy and will inform you if we have to cancel classes on Monday for safety reasons.

There are no swimming lessons in the last week of school, but there are sports lessons on the school grounds.

1cb91654 3304 4ebd a090 c5185bd01c89What a lovely evening, a concert in the school's own living room! That's more or less how the performance by the “Ukes of Hazard” and “O'Brolenkpe” felt yesterday, Thursday, 05.12.24. The audience was unable to confirm the band's “self-deprecation” with “little talent” and also rewarded them with sing-alongs to one or two classics. The last guests left around 10 p.m., leaving a lasting impression. We will gladly offer them the stage again next year. The German School Accra is thus taking on a new, broader role as a cultural mediator. We would also like to offer other artists a stage. Please contact us!

The vacation plan for the coming school year 2025/26 has now been agreed with the parents' representatives.

Kindergarten and nursery

Last week, the Christmas spirit was omnipresent in the nursery. The children enjoyed colouring in their Christmas presents. We also danced to Christmas carols, which made for lots of movement and fun. We also read lots of Christmas books! The highlight of the week was Santa's visit on Thursday. The children enthusiastically sang ‘Let's be merry and bright’ before receiving small presents. Afterwards, we enjoyed a cosy breakfast together with the kindergarten, which rounded off the day perfectly.

We have had a short but eventful week in kindergarten. This week we once again focussed on the pre-Christmas period 🎄. We have been crafting ✂️und in an exuberant atmosphere, listening to lots of Christmas music 🎶 and working on Christmas-themed word cards in both English and German. We have also learnt a short poem; Advent, Advent ein Lichtlein brennt. Due to the renovation work, we have spent a lot of time in the garden this week. Today we had a very special visitor. Father Christmas 🤶 was there. We recited poems and sang songs with great excitement. He also brought each child a bag of goodies 🍫🍏🍪. Afterwards, we had an extensive breakfast together with the crèche. Finally, we watched two factual films today. One film was about rhinos 🦏and the other about rubbish collection 🚚.

10000897491000089752What will I become one day? This intriguing question was the focus of our ethics class this week. Some wonderful dreams and ideas were put to paper. One thing is clear: the next generation is almost ready to take the helm!Additionally, Saint Nicholas visited this week, and the children proudly recited their memorized poems and were rewarded with gifts from him. In preparation for Christmas, a Santa rap was practiced in English class. The children have homework in their school bags. These should only be completed at home if attending school next week is not possible. The children are informed.

In German class 4, we slowly completed the topic of fantasy stories by copying or typing out our best of the two written stories. In Year 3 German, we worked intensively on the topic of verbs and personal forms in our green Lola. Our German learners created interviews about hobbies etc., conducted them on Wednesday and wrote texts about the people interviewed. In maths, we prepared for our maths test on Thursday. In English, we recapitulated our class trip together with both groups and wrote great diary entries about it. Your children are welcome to read them to you. In Science, we completed the topic of sexual education by looking at the physical and emotional changes during puberty. In Ethics we have been reflecting on our school trip and in particular our visit to the Fort of Good Hope. In Art, we started our own flip book. After the St Nicholas breakfast on Thursday, we did sports with Patrick Blanke-Schelle and played zombie ball. Now we are looking forward to a nice holiday and hope to see you at school on Monday. We wish everyone a successful election day.

IMG 7306The school trip was a dream. Everything went well and we really enjoyed being in Ko-Sa, having the beach on our doorstep and being away from the hustle and bustle of Accra. Many thanks to everyone involved, we are looking forward to the next tour and you can see the pictures on the homepage. At the beginning of the week we had to settle in again. In HTW we have almost finished building our robots. The students are now working almost independently and have learnt a lot. In maths, they have deepened their understanding of fractions. Please look out for the class test next week. In ancient Rome, the complex water supply through aqueducts was just as fascinating as the world of fashion 2000 years ago.

Last week was once again full of exciting events! In German, the seventh graders wrote their last German test of the semester after an intensive practice session - a great end to the first few months of the school year! In maths, the pupils have been preparing intensively for the upcoming class test on Tuesday. The topic is about angle theorems and constructing triangles - a challenging but exciting subject! In geography, the seventh-graders are approaching the finale of the fascinating subject by summarising the topic ‘Restless Earth’. Charlemagne was once again the historical inspiration for the Middle Ages and the founding of France and Germany. Thursday was St Nicholas' Day, and Class 7 surprised St Nicholas with a little dance. A cheerful highlight that was great fun for everyone!
