Newsletter 13.12.2024
With this last newsletter of 2024, we look back with gratitude on an eventful, exciting and fulfilling twelve months. We would like to take this opportunity to thank parents for the great trust they have placed in the school. We would also like to express our deepest appreciation to the highly committed team in the teaching, administration and support staff. Only with so much passion is it possible to form a cultural center for the German-speaking community in Accra, but above all to be a bridge builder between Ghana, Germany and the world. The parent representatives and members of the Board also went the proverbial “extra mile”. Another pillar was our cooperation partners, who enriched school life beyond belief. Together, all members of the lively school community achieved the most important thing brilliantly: a good school with a good kindergarten, where children and young people enjoy going, expand their skills in academic, cultural and social areas and are made fit for life. And the students also deserve huge praise for their achievements in 2024: Medaase!
We wish the many children who are still taking part in the “magical” holiday camp next week a magical week!
We wish you a peaceful and reflective Christmas and look forward to seeing you again in the new year 2025, which we look forward to with confidence. The first day of school will be Wednesday, January 8, 2025 (according to the timetable).
The intern from our partner university in Potsdam, Lina Robst, had her last day today. We would like to thank her for her time and support!
Once again this year, there will be a family service on Christmas Eve organized by the German-speaking Protestant congregation in Accra. They extend a cordial invitation:
When? Christmas Eve, December 24, 2024 at 4 p.m.
Where? Ridge Church, 1st floor (signposted and barrier-free) - right next to Kempinski Hotel
We attach an invitation with further information about the event. Please feel free to share it with German-speaking people in your circle of family and friends. Participants of all denominations are cordially invited to celebrate with us! The team of the German Evangelical Church Accra wishes you all a blessed Christmas and a happy and prosperous 2025!
The parent representatives, the board and the school management would like to invite you to the Townhall Meeting on 16.01.2024 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the assembly hall. At this town hall meeting, the school management and the board will give us parents a review of the first half year as well as an outlook for the coming half year. After the presentation, they will be available for your questions and suggestions. The parent representatives would also like to wish you a peaceful and relaxing festive season and a happy new year.
We would also like to draw your attention to the latest newsletter from our valued medical cooperation partner HomeMed:

Kindergarten and Nursery:
Last week, the nursery was particularly Christmassy and colorful. The children painted with finger paints with great enthusiasm and creativity, resulting in beautiful works of art. It was especially nice that we sang and danced to Christmas music - the children had a lot of fun moving to the festive music and enjoying the anticipation of the upcoming festivities together. We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
The last week before the vacations was all about Christmas preparations in the kindergarten. We made Christmas presents, baked and decorated cookies and, of course, listened to and sang lots of Christmas carols. We used our learning time this week to draw wish lists and we wrote letters to bring joy to people in Germany who are alone and have no one to celebrate Christmas with. In the “English Club”, the children watched different stories this week. New words were learned, they tried to repeat the stories in their own words and questions about the stories were answered (listening-comprehension). The newly learned words were also assigned to suitable pictures with the use of prepositions: under, next to, above. On Friday, we then cheered on the school children in their “Winter Olympics” and tidied up our groups for the vacations.
Primary school:
In classes 1/2, students practiced using colored pencils. With a festive assignment, they focused on precise and careful coloring. The results: beautiful, artistic creations and an excellent learning experience. Additionally, the Santa Rap video shoot was successfully completed. The final video can be found in the school WhatsApp group. Today, we also said goodbye to our intern, Lina Robst. Thank you for your dedication and hard work! As we wrap up the last day of school, we wish everyone a wonderful holiday season and a Merry Christmas! Enjoy your break and see you in the new year!
This week we had an exciting week in class 3/4. In German class 4 we went to the library at the beginning of the week and some of us read to the kindergarten children. We also wrote a mini-test on fantasy stories and typed or copied out our own story using our tablet or laptop. Year 3 have been working in blue and green lola this week, watching detective videos and solving the puzzles. Our German learners have been working on body parts and describing our class dinosaur in detail. In math, we practiced geometry again and wrote the 2nd math test yesterday. In English with Laura Lützeler, we read a Christmas picture book and watched the very funny movie “Bad Guys”. Clementia Mayoga gave us a spelling test. In Science, we finished off the topic of puberty with a fun game about our hobbies and interests. In art, we made flipbooks. Apart from that, it was a very sporty week with sports instead of swimming and the Winter Olympics on Friday. This was a complete success! Everyone had fun, the teams worked really well together and cheered each other on. Thank you for the great preparation. Now we are all looking forward to the vacations, but we are also a little sad not to see our friends at school every day in the coming weeks. With this in mind, we wish everyone a wonderful and relaxing vacation and a few happy holidays. We are already looking forward to seeing everyone again next year❤
Secondary school:
Happy Friday. First of all, we would like to thank the class 5/6 for the good cooperation. We have had an eventful first semester in which we have clearly given our best. Students, parents and the team alike. The teaching team got together this week to discuss pupils and how we can support them even better in the coming months. In art, the children got creative as usual and made beautiful Christmas trees with leftovers and scraps in the art room. In geography, they focused on the climate and seasons of Europe, while in history they looked at education and children's games in ancient Rome. We wish you all a relaxing time and look forward to welcoming you back to GISA in January.
The last week of school before the Christmas break was once again full of exciting events! In math, the grade 7 students wrote their paper on triangles and angles. We are looking forward to the results and wish everyone every success! Tests were also taken in other subjects. In Science, French and Geography, the pupils put their knowledge to the test. We hope that everyone was well prepared and look forward to the feedback. However, the absolute highlight of the week was the Winter Olympics on Friday! With sporting competitions and lots of fun activities, there was no shortage of fun. A successful end to the year! Now we wish everyone a relaxing Christmas season and look forward to seeing you again in the New Year. With festive greetings, Class 7
