Kindergarten and nursery:
Last week, we enjoyed working on various Christmas activities in the nursery. The children created magical Christmas pictures with their fingerprints, which strengthened their fine motor skills and their understanding of colours. We also decorated wooden stars with glitter, allowing them to develop their concentration and creativity. Decorating a small Christmas tree encouraged teamwork and social skills. We also sang the song ‘Let's be merry and bright’. This strengthened language development and a sense of community. We also welcomed a new child to our group on Monday!
This week we had our development talks in the elephant group at the kindergarten. Our groups were also decorated for Christmas and our windows in particular now look like a real winter wonderland. There's also news from our elves! Lasse and Tomte have finally finished building their house and moved in with us. They have written to us, sung the lyrics to Christmas carols and we were able to ask them lots of questions again. During learning time, we listened to different instruments and guessed which ones they were. The children also recognized and named numbers and then matched them with the right number of snowflakes. We also used the learning time to stick on colorful stars and decorate Christmas trees together in our groups. In the “English Club” this week, the beginners have repeated sentence formation. We also continued to work on the topic of Christmas, listened to songs and sang along. We also repeated the word cards on the topic. The advanced students continued to work on the worksheets on the initial sounds.
Primary school:
The highlight of the week for Class 1/2 was clearly the zoo visit. The children observed the animals closely and asked numerous questions to our guide, Raymond. While most of them favored the lions, there were also enthusiastic parrot fans among us. Some children showed great interest in the snakes as well. After lunch, the children enjoyed a well-deserved ice cream.
This week we took giant steps towards the Christmas market. In German in Year 4 we finished our fantasy stories and started a new one with the illustrated picture from Reading Aloud Day and a picture generated by Chat-GPT. What a motivational booster. In Year 3 we have been focussing on reading and finished the process with a test on Thursday. We are also using the tablets more and more. At home you can use Anton and Antolin accordingly. Our German learners have been learning maths vocabulary this week, such as ‘add’, ‘more’, ‘less’ etc. In maths, we continued to work on geometric solids with the support of trainee Lena Prosser. In English with Laura Lützeler, we started a book report on a book of our choice. Otherwise, we went into more detail about ‘nice words’ in the class council today, as unfortunately there were also arguments. Nevertheless, there were also many occasions to say ‘Thank you!’ to someone. We are looking forward to a great event tomorrow and will proudly present the results of our second project period.
Secondary school:
This week we explored the countries of Europe and did a fun group jigsaw activity where learners created a map of the continent and its countries on the board. The learners enjoyed putting the pieces together and discovering the uniqueness of each country, including its culture, language and geography. This hands-on activity not only improved their teamwork skills, but also deepened their understanding of European geography. Encourage your child to share what they have learnt about the different European countries at home! We are also continuing to work on the history of Ghana. This week we have started collecting information about Kwame Nkrumah and independence. We are already very excited about the school trip.
Before their upcoming class trip, the seventh-graders did a final spurt of ballads this week to prepare perfectly for their next German assignment: So we immersed ourselves in the sometimes funny, sometimes scary stories that ballads tell, demonstrated typical features of ballads on several texts, wrote synopses and let the characters themselves have their say in productive writing assignments. Learners combined English and art to create beautiful Christmas stories that reflect the spirit of the season. They expressed their creativity through writing and illustration and prepared for the upcoming Christmas market and festivities. In maths, the pupils have been looking at different triangle shapes and working out how triangles can be constructed. With given information, such as: Side, side, side or angle, side, angle and a sketch plan, the pupils were able to construct triangles. The classroom was also decorated for Christmas and the class is looking forward to the Christmas market on Saturday.
