2025 01 20 Bonsu Pascal TraueranzeigeThis week was sadly overshadowed. Last Saturday, our valued and long-standing colleague Pascal Bonsu passed away completely unexpectedly at the age of just 56.

Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his family and loved ones at this difficult time. We will keep Pascal Bonsu in honorable memory as a dedicated, warm and valued person and employee.

UWSA 1UWSA 2We received these words from Judith and Louis Doe: “We would like to thank everyone who supported the Universal Wonderful Street Academy's ‘Walk for children's rights’ with their presence. We realize that it means a lot to the children and their families when people support these important issues from outside. They are seen, heard and recognized. It also means a lot to us when our events are supported by GISA. A huge thank you. Anyone who would like to find out more about our work can contact us at any time and is very welcome to visit us at the school in Jamestown. And anyone who would like to experience more with and from us is cordially invited to celebrate our 14th anniversary with us. The celebration will take place on February 1st from 3 pm in Old Ningo. It will be loud, traditional, musical and colorful.”

Program Ghana Mountaineers

End of the semester – time for the Junior Ghana Mountaineers to go camping! They will camp in the bush, likely on Mount Krobo, with no facilities but a vehicle nearby for emergencies. Seats are reserved for semester participants, while limited spots for non-participants are available at GHS 1,500, provided they have prior hiking experience with them.

Confirm participation by email by Friday, 24th January, if you still want to join! The trip is starting on Saturday, 1st February, at 5:40 AM at Trade Fair in La. Kids should pack light for the hike and carry essentials in a backpack, with an extra small bag for overnight items, while meals and clean drinking water will be provided at the campsite. Sounds like a lot of fun!

Lunch caterer North Ridge

We at North Ridge Catering are delighted to hear how much the kids are enjoying their lunches! It’s always a pleasure to provide meals that make their day even better.

We’ve observed that students in classes 3 -7 have been enjoying larger portions to meet their growing appetites. As a result, the price for their meals will be adjusted slightly from 37 to 40 cedi for class 1-4, and 45 cedi for class 5-7  to reflect this change. The price for the nursery and kindergarten is going down to 30 cedi. Thank you for your understanding and for allowing us to continue serving your children with delicious and nutritious meals!

Reminder: If your child is unwell and will not be eating lunch at school, please let us know by 8:00 AM. This helps us plan meals accordingly and avoid unnecessary charges for the day.

Warm regards, The North Ridge Catering Team

Swiss Club

We are happy to accommodate the parents' request and set the rental prices for the Swiss Club in Ghana Cedi. The fees are 1,100 GHS for use without the playground and 1,500 GHS with the playground. We look forward to your inquiries.

German-speaking Protestant congregation

Back in 2025, the German-speaking Protestant community in Accra welcomes all friends and interested parties. We hope you had a happy holiday season and have arrived safely in the new year! A lot has happened in the meantime: Before the end of the year, the Evangelical Mission in Solidarity, Stuttgart, published the job advertisement for a new position to be filled in Accra - this will again involve coordination with the Presbytarien Church Ghana and pastoral tasks in our congregation. Hopefully the congregation will soon be able to look forward to a new pastor from Germany! She will continue to report on this.

The first service after the winter break will begin on Sunday, February 9 at 10:30 a.m. on the first floor of the Ridge Church (right next to the Kempinski Hotel) - barrier-free.

After that, the German-language services will always take place on the second Sunday of the month in the first half of the year. You can follow the church on Facebook or join their WhatsApp group.

Feel free to drop by, no registration is necessary!

Kindergarten and nursery:

Krippe 1Krippe 2This week has been full of exciting and creative experiences at the nursery. We started off by creating marble paintings, where the children enthusiastically dipped marbles in paint and rolled them over a piece of paper to create unique and colorful works of art. One highlight was our “Bee Hunt”. We made bee crowns, sang bee songs and the children used their imaginations to hide in a “beehive”. At the end of the week, there was another highlight - our garden party! The children were able to experiment with the water, splash around and cool off. This activity made for lots of fun and smiling faces and was a wonderful end to a varied week.

This week, we continued to talk about our ‘feelings’ in kindergarten. In our morning circles, we mimed feelings, played the game ‘fruit salad’ with feelings and continued to practise the song ‘I love my body’. The children were also able to draw funny ‘cube faces’ and afterwards we tried together to assign an emotion to the faces we had created. During learning time, we tried to drum different feelings in music. In maths, we recognised number pictures, assigned numbers and colours and worked together to work out which numbers are larger or smaller. To promote fine motor skills, we also did a cutting exercise this week. In the ‘English Club’ this week, the advanced children learnt about means of transport. Some of these words were already known, but many more were learnt in a playful way using pictures. New worksheets were also worked on this week, in which the aim was to recognise the initial consonants using pictures. Of course, we also expanded our vocabulary again here. The topic of the week at DAF/DAZ was also our feelings. We talked about feelings in language circles (sometimes freely, sometimes with the help of picture cards) and played feelings bingo and feelings memory. On Friday we had a lot of fun at our toy day. The children proudly presented their favourite toys from home and played with them extensively together.

Primary school:

1 2This week class 1/2 showed an excellent attitude to work and great social skills, supporting each other and making great progress in their learning. The children are placing more and more emphasis on beautiful handwriting and neat work. They are also paying increasing attention to detail when reading work instructions. Next week, class 2 will start their “multiplication tables pass.” Parents, your children will certainly ask you to quiz them on the coloring series! In science class, work on building aquariums is in full swing. In ethics lessons, we have been working on the big topic of fear. Fear as a personal “alarm tiger” that helps us in threatening situations. It makes us run away, hide or gives us the strength to defend ourselves. In art lessons, the focus is on delicate brushwork. The pupils guide the tips of their brushes over the paper with astonishing care.

In German, class 3/4 worked on 3 reading theatres. The class worked in three groups on three fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm. The students in Year 3/4 are currently working on basic arithmetic operations such as multiplication and division. These are being improved with the help of various memories and the Minimax booklet. Class 3/4's week came to a very emotional end. After Pascal's farewell party in the 4th lesson, many memories of sad moments and emotions came up among the children, which were given space in the class council. This demonstrates great trust within the class community.

Secondary school:

5 6 a5 6 bThis week we started our projects for Ghana Days. Year 5 and 6 have been working on Ghanaian languages, making Adinkra Signs out of wood and rehearsing traditional dances. In a few weeks we will be able to marvel at the results together. Year 6 read through the book ‘The Brothers Lionheart’ and handed in their reading diary. We were able to complete this project just in time for the school reports. In IT, we are working on creating PowerPoints. Each pupil chose a country, researched its colonisation on the internet and presented this in the form of a presentation. In HTW, we dedicated ourselves to a new project and started building a marble maze. In Geography, we travelled to Northern Europe, Scandinavia and the Baltic States, and in Art we continued to work on the calendar pages. We were particularly pleased with the news that our classroom will be getting a new coat of paint this school year. This week, the seventh-graders worked on the spelling of das-dass and relative clauses and deepened their knowledge of comma placement.

In maths, the class has dealt with antiproportional mapping and can recognise, name and describe the difference between different mappings. In social studies and computer science, the pupils work on a project on the topic of the environment and recycling. In social studies, the content topics are discussed and in computer science, the type of presentation is worked out using a website. In geography, climate diagrams were interpreted and climate zones defined. In history, the medieval presentations were finalised and the topic of heraldry was introduced in an interdisciplinary way to art. In English, the pupils are currently interpreting poems and writing their first poems themselves. These will then be presented to the primary school pupils. There will also be a football tournament for the secondary school next Friday at Old Ningo. Our footballers are training hard to be successful in the tournament. Last but not least, we would like to say goodbye to Pascal as Class 7 and will always remember him fondly. Rest in Peace, Pascal.
