Newsletter 29.08.2025
With the end of the third week, we have settled well into the new school year. The last two parents’ evenings were successfully completed, and next Monday the new Parent Council will be constituted.
We are very pleased that Priscilla Momo Afotey has taken over speech therapy at our school. She continues the therapy sessions previously conducted by Nienke seamlessly and supports the children with great sensitivity.
At present, she is also observing lessons in the classes and in Kindergarten in order to get to know our children even better. She shares her observations and feedback with the class teachers. Should further recommendations be advisable, parents will be informed via the class teachers.
Speech therapy supports children individually in their language development and thereby strengthens their self-confidence in everyday school life.
Cost overview
- Individual session: 280 GHS per appointment
- Group session (3 participants): 100 GHS per participant and appointment

Kindergarten and nursery
In the crèche this week, the focus was on building trust and settling into daily routines. The children played together, danced to movement songs, and spent plenty of time in the garden. They were able to express their joy in music, movement, and nature, and strengthen their social contacts.
We look back on an eventful week. In morning circle we started our new project “Farm” 🐮🐔🌾. Through songs, games, and conversations the children learned a lot about animals, plants, and life on the farm. Matching the theme, we also did a lot of crafts 🎨 – small animals and farm pictures were created, which the children proudly presented.
The preschool and learning time have also begun ✏️. Playfully we practiced counting numbers – with much joy and curiosity.
A special highlight was the puppet theater “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” 🎭🐛. The children were thrilled and enchanted by the story. We also worked with ironing beads – an exciting way to practice fine motor skills in everyday life.
Primary School
Classes 1/2
In English this week, the children repeated the alphabet. Some pupils consolidated their existing knowledge, while others were introduced to the sounds of phonics for the first time. It was a special joy for everyone to sing and say the sounds aloud together.
The phonics lesson ended with an interactive exercise on the “Active Floor,” which made learning both exciting and playful.
In mathematics, the first graders are currently working on writing numbers. They not only practice the correct writing of each digit but also deepen the secure assignment of quantities to numbers. With varied exercises and visual materials, the children learn to recognize number patterns, estimate quantities, and record them correctly. Step by step, a solid foundation for number sense is created.
In class 2, the number range up to 100 was introduced in mathematics. To give the children a clear understanding of grouping tens, egg cartons were used, illustrating the bundling and counting of tens.
In this way, the pupils not only consolidated counting up to 100 but also developed fundamental concepts of place value: tens and ones were clearly distinguished and set in relation to each other.
Classes 3/4
Last week in German lessons, the children worked intensively on an individual learning pathway. The focus was on three important grammar topics: compound nouns, adjectives, and verb conjugation. The children were able to work independently and at their own pace, practicing and consolidating their knowledge.
At the same time, they researched the topic of “pets” with great interest. Next week, the information collected will be creatively presented on posters, and the grammar content learned will be purposefully applied.
We are already looking forward to many colorful and informative results.
In English lessons this week, we continued exploring Roald Dahl’s “Matilda.” The children enjoyed forming adjectives and verbs appropriate to the story. We also dealt with the setting and the various characters, their roles, and their contribution to the plot.
A creative and insightful week.
Secondary School
Class 5
In German, the pupils worked on the concept of suspense in storytelling. They learned how to make their own texts more exciting.
In mathematics, work focused on the number line as well as rounding and estimation.
In history, the pupils looked over the shoulders of archaeologists and learned about their work.
In music, the children tried out the Boomwhackers for the first time and enthusiastically accompanied the song “Believer.”
Class 6
The third week of school at GISA began for the Secondary students with many new and also rediscovered rituals. Gathering and lining up together on the basketball court took a little practice at first, but was quickly embraced by everyone.
In Grade 6, not only were many rules for our social interactions discussed and introduced this week, but the rules for punctuation in direct speech were also reviewed in order to make our stories in German class more exciting and vivid. In Ethics class, too, the focus was on social interaction, and strategies for resolving conflicts within friendships were developed and tested.
The name-aliens of Grades 5 and 6 are almost finished and will take over their creative planets next week.
Things also got creative in the comic design project with Grades 5 and 6, where we brought many colorful and funny sound words to paper.
Classes 7/8
In English, the pupils deepened their understanding of what a monologue is, what characteristics it has, and even wrote their own. The highlight was the oral performance, in which they demonstrated their understanding through tone and voice. It was exciting to see how the students observed one another, gave feedback, supported each other, and learned from one another. A week full of creativity and confidence-building.
In mathematics, the seventh graders focused on multiplication and division of whole numbers, while the eighth graders worked on terms and equations. Particularly interesting was learning the binomial formulas through a group puzzle, illustrated with a real-life example about living spaces.
In social studies, the pupils worked with a future-oriented focus. They dealt with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and developed first ideas for their own projects on the topic of a sustainable school.
In history, they accompanied the famous explorers and are now preparing for the first test on the topic “End of the Middle Ages / Beginning of the Modern Era.”
In physical education, the focus was on team games and on practicing passing and dribbling in basketball.
This week in the French club, the focus was on playful vocabulary expansion. Through short dialogues, songs, and small role-plays, the pupils practiced simple everyday situations. A highlight was singing a French children’s song together, which combined rhythm and language.
📚 Cover Stories in the School Library – DaF Class 7/8
Also this week, the DaF class 7/8 went to the school library – but this time it was not about reading, but about imagining. Each pupil chose a book solely based on the cover and wrote a short story about it. The results ranged from funny to adventurous and impressively showed: one picture can open up an entire world.
