Great joy at GISA! Gerald Asamoah visited his godchildren, immersed himself in everyday school and kindergarten life and inspired the children with great conversations. A special highlight: the handover of a defibrillator! He also demonstrated his footballing skills and played in an exciting match between pupils and teachers. GISA says thank you from the bottom of its heart and looks forward to continuing its collaboration with @gerald.asamoah and @gerald.asamoah.stiftung
It was also all about the round leather last Saturday in Old Ningo, where our secondary school team cut a very fine figure!
Exciting changes are also taking place in the playground, where the first constructions of the new, beehive-like climbing frame are becoming visible.

Kindergarten and nursery:
This week we started with the topic of colours and shapes in the nursery. The children had great fun making their own plasticine and then colouring it with food colouring. They were able to observe how colours change the material and creatively try out their own mixtures. Another highlight was making butterflies out of coffee filters. The children first painted them brightly and then watched in amazement as the colours mixed when water was added and new colour gradients were created. In the coming week, we would like to explore the topic of colours and shapes in more depth and offer the children further exciting opportunities to discover this world through play.
The kindergarten started this week with the new topic ‘Farm’. We learnt a few terms in both English and German that relate to the farm theme. Together we made ‘witches' stairs’, which were then given the faces of farm animals. The children also discussed the cycle of hens, chicks and eggs and created small posters about them. This week we also had another visit from Gerald Asamoah. He was very interested when we showed him our great groups and toys.
During learning time, we repeated the farm terms in line with the theme. The younger children named different animals and imitated their sounds, while the older children matched the terms to the appropriate items. In music, we got to know our instruments even better. We recognised different instruments by their sound, named them and then, of course, tried playing them. On Friday we had to say goodbye to Timna. There was a big group hug and we sang a song for her together. We wish Timna all the best in Germany and are glad to have had her in our kindergarten for the last six months.
Primary school:
Since this week, music instead of art has been on the timetable for class 1/2 on Wednesdays. The first lesson was all about the length of musical notes - learnt through play with the words crocodile, reindeer, chipmunk and meerkat. This made rhythm tangible! Some children made stick puppets and used them to retell a story - a great combination of art and creative storytelling. The aquariums were completed in Science. A special highlight: Gerald Asamoah visited the class! Together with the children, they quizzed, danced and laughed. An unforgettable moment for everyone!
In German this week we worked on our spelling and went to the library. In maths, we started with written division in year 4. The initial frustration has now given way to understanding. In PE, we played dodgeball again after a long time. In art, we finalised our masks and started our first costume designs.
We had a wonderful week with our science lessons where we discussed the life cycle of humans and animals from birth/hatching to adulthood. We had a session with the nursery children where we observed them and noted the differences between them. This helped the learners to learn the difference between baby, toddler and child. In the next session, learners will be asked to bring in their baby photos so we can see the growth spurt and we will continue with observing teenagers and adults. In English we have been doing a story walk outside in the school playground and then retelling the story in the present or past tense.
Secondary school:
Year 6 recapitulated and continued the circulatory system and the types of blood vessels that enable blood circulation in our bodies. Students learnt the difference between oxygenated and deoxygenated blood. We learnt again that some animals have the same circulatory system as humans. We conclude the topic on the circulatory system by learning the difference between heartbeat and pulse. The learners explain how to use a stethoscope and what it is used for. Our next lesson will look at the respiratory and reproductive systems. Year 5 continued with the digestive system, where learners learn that digestion follows a certain pattern before food is digested. We learnt about the main organs responsible for digestion and why undigested food is excreted from the body. The learners also learnt about the digestive system of rabbits and cats and compared their digestive organs. In the next lesson we will carry out an experiment on a chicken and start with a balanced diet. An appealing class calendar was created in art, Northern Europe was visited in art and the ancient Germanic tribes in history. While Year 6 are familiarising themselves with sentence structures and sentence structures in German, Year 5 are working on a book presentation. ‘Immerse yourself in the topic just completed by Year 5 and find our book presentation on ’35 Kilos of Hope", a book for young people in the library. Class 5 invites you to read!"
This week was exciting and varied in many subjects in year 7. In maths, we have been working with terms and learning how to simplify and transform them. In PE, we are currently developing our own games - creativity and teamwork are particularly important here. In biology lessons, everything revolves around healthy eating. We have learnt about the food pyramid and discussed which nutrients our bodies need to stay fit and healthy. In social sciences and computer science, we are continuing to work on our website about waste and recycling. Our aim is to create an informative and appealing project that shows how important it is to act sustainably. Interdisciplinary work in art and history resulted in beautiful, individualised coats of arms. In geography, on the other hand, climate zones were defined. The seventh-graders' German lessons this week focussed on factual texts, reports and short films on the topics of ‘sign language’ and ‘Braille’, which we examined in terms of content and language. The highlight of the week was Wednesday: former professional footballer Gerald Asamoah paid us a visit. Afterwards, there was an exciting football match between teachers and pupils - everyone had great fun and the atmosphere was fantastic!
