Kindergarten & Nursery

This week in the nursery, everything revolved around nature – specifically, the bee. The children greatly enjoyed learning about these small, buzzing helpers. Together we crafted bees, explored colors, shapes, and materials, and practiced working carefully. A special highlight was printing a honeycomb pattern using bubble wrap – a tactile activity where children experimented with pressure and texture. While solving a bee puzzle, the children learned the names of the bee’s body parts, enriching their vocabulary and introducing them to insect anatomy. Of course, the classic song “Summ, summ, summ, Bienchen summ herum” was also part of our week – through singing and movement, children developed both language skills and musicality.
In Kindergarten, the week began calmly due to ongoing parent-teacher development conferences. We revisited the topic of healthy eating, recalled which foods are healthy or unhealthy, and created posters. We also returned to the sports room, where the children played games like “Fire, Water, Storm,” climbed, ran, and built a cave together. There was plenty of time for free and creative play – both in the classroom and outdoors.
During learning time, the children experimented with finger paints, exploring colors, shapes, and techniques like dabbing, smudging, and blending. We also reviewed prepositions – the children placed “magic stones” on, under, behind, in front of, and next to various objects. Older children revisited the alphabet, identifying letters in their own names. In math, we focused on understanding quantities using Lego blocks and the “magic stones” to develop a sense of “greater than” and “less than.”
Primary School

What an exciting week for Grades 1 and 2! Monday began with a class trip to the National Museum and the Museum of Science and Technology. The children were fascinated by real historical artifacts and exciting inventions. There was wonder, curiosity, and lots of learning.
Another highlight was our evening rehearsal on Tuesday – the final run before Thursday’s big event: our musical performance. Every child contributed with energy, courage, and team spirit. It was a huge success and an unforgettable evening!
In the classroom, Grade 1 continued learning about money and how to use coins and bills to calculate and compare prices – an essential everyday skill. Grade 2 delved deeper into multiplication, focusing on applying their knowledge of times tables.
In Ethics, we explored the theme of happiness. Children shared their good luck charms and created their own “book of happiness” filled with creativity and heart. There was also a great interdisciplinary project where students created their own word problems in German class and solved them together in math – a fun and engaging way to connect learning!

We’re especially proud of everyone after yesterday’s successful musical performance 🤗. In German, Grade 4 wrote their own poems this week, while Grade 3 began working on personal dictionaries. Our German learners visited the library and read independently. Our new students learned how to tell the time. In math, we presented posters on money, weight, length, and volume – helping develop realistic concepts of size through hands-on examples. In English, we explored different text types including letters, emails, and postcards. Students worked in groups to create their own examples, with presentations scheduled for next week. The Active Floor added extra fun with the “Buzz It” adjective game and a phonics memory game, helping students expand vocabulary and practice teamwork.
In Science, we prepared for our test by studying microscope parts and learning about the Earth’s layers.
We also explored the topic of medicine and medication, focusing on types, uses, and application. We invited our school nurse, Nancy Twieku, as a guest speaker. She answered many student questions in a lively session where children shared personal experiences of being ill or receiving injections. It was an engaging and memorable experience!
And yes – we finally went swimming again! After the musical, we started Friday feeling a bit tired but happy and ended the week with lots of “thank-yous” during class circle time. Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend and a speedy recovery to all who are unwell!
Secondary School

WOW – what a performance at yesterday’s musical! A big thank-you to all our student actors, singers, dancers, and of course the entire team behind the scenes.
In Grade 6, our intern Jean is leading a fantastic unit on social media. Students are exploring pros and cons, learning how to spot fake news and fake profiles, and understanding online safety. We aim to foster a conscious and critical approach to digital media.
In Ethics and IT, students completed mock job interviews – from educators and footballers to waitstaff and veterinarians – giving insight into potential future careers.
In Geography, students created layered diagrams of the rainforest and added animals to bring their jungle scenes to life.
In Grade 5 Biology, we continued learning about food chains and food webs. Students identified producers, consumers, herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores in various ecosystems and reinforced these concepts in preparation for the upcoming test.
In Grade 6 Biology, we began our unit on microorganisms – their types, roles in food, health, and decomposition. Students learned that not all microorganisms are harmful and reviewed key concepts for their upcoming assessment.
In English, we concluded our unit on persuasive letter writing. Students produced impressive texts showcasing strong persuasive vocabulary. For a fun twist, we used the Active Floor to review phonics and keep learning interactive.

In German (Grade 7), students debated controversial topics like whether classmates who cheat should be reported. This sparked lively discussions and helped develop argumentation and rebuttal skills.
In Chemistry, Grade 7 continued presentations on processes such as freezing, sublimation, and deposition, and how temperature influences chemical behavior.
In Physics, our guest expert Jeff (our school maintenance technician) explained electricity, voltage, circuits, and renewable energy sources like hydro, thermal, solar, and wind power. After the test, students will build simple circuits, with Jeff continuing to support the project.
In History and Social Studies, we looked at Germany’s chancellors from Adenauer to Scholz and discussed their biographies and leadership. We also took a “time travel” journey back to the post-war “zero hour.”
In English, we focused on grammar and punctuation, identifying strengths and areas for improvement. Students also worked on challenging research topics, which they presented in PowerPoint.

In the Secondary DaF (German as a Foreign Language) class, students in Grades 5–7 continued exploring vocabulary related to nutrition, the school cafeteria, and restaurants. They reviewed accusative case, negation and affirmation, plural forms, and the imperative. They also began working with modal verbs and expressing wishes. Students created posters on grammar topics and presented them in pairs or individually. Today, the week ended with a learning assessment on the topics covered.
