A World of Creativity – Geography Project in Grade 7

Written on 05 June 2025

In recent weeks, the focus of Grade 7 geography lessons has been nothing less than the entire world! The project began with an essential question: How do we represent our planet – and how accurate are these representations?
With great curiosity, the students explored various map projections – from the well-known Mercator projection to the globe and more scale-accurate alternatives. Many were amazed to discover how much larger Africa is compared to Europe.

Then came the creative part: the students designed their own world map for the classroom – planning the scale, positioning the continents, and giving it a unique artistic touch. The project brought together coordination, teamwork, spatial thinking, mathematical understanding, and artistic creativity.

The map is set to be completed by the end of the school year and will then serve as a vibrant, student-made visual aid in the classroom – a wonderful example of interdisciplinary learning with heart and mind!
