Newsletter 16.08.2024
We have successfully completed the first week of the new 2024/25 school year. We started on Monday with a colorful school enrollment ceremony, where footprints were set and bridges were built. The focus was on the new first-graders and the many new students at our school. We are delighted about the growing secondary school, which now has a seventh grade, and the fact that we have reached a three-digit number of students.
We were also delighted by the visit from Gerald Asamoah, with whose foundation we have a wonderful partnership, and the almost magical transformation of the children's daycare center over the past summer thanks to the work of Irina Wehmann and her team and Jan Bauer's bamboo climbing house.
With an intensive and individual educational boost, project time on two (primary school) or one (secondary school) afternoon(s) and the Cambridge standards, there are also exciting innovations in the curriculum. The children were very impressed by the wide range of German Days activities and our motto “Made in Germany” and were spoiled for choice.
We are pleased to share details of our extracurricular program for the coming school year. We are pleased to offer a variety of extracurricular activities to suit different interests and talents. Here are the key points for the extracurricular program:
- Try-out period: The program starts with a 2-week try-out period from the 19th of August until the 30th of August. During this period, students can attend different classes to discover which activities they are most interested in.
- Registration students: After the try-out period, students get the chance to register in the classes they want to participate in. A minimum of 3 students are required for each class.
- Duration of the program: The program runs from September to February. After this period, we introduce a new set of activities and programmes, which offer new opportunities for students.
- Separate invoices: Please note that extracurricular activities are invoiced separately from regular school fees. This ensures transparency and gives you a clear picture of the costs associated with these extra activities.

We believe these programmes will greatly enrich our students' school experience and we encourage you to discuss the available options with your children. If you have any questions or would like more information, please feel free to contact us.
We are also missing a brace in an orange box that was lost at school this week. We would be delighted if this could be handed in to the administration.
We will also send you the medical offer from HomeMed in an information sheet for your consideration.
Kindergarten and Nursery:
This week, we started settling in the four new children at the nursery. We sang and danced together and made our first friends. It's lovely to see how the children support each other and enthusiastically discover the new play opportunities.
This week, we had lots of time to play in the kindergarten and explore our new rooms, new toys and especially our new playhouse. We also spent a lot of time in the garden and enjoyed time with our friends. We welcomed some new children to our groups, got to know them, showed them around and helped them to get to know our routines. We wish them a warm welcome and look forward to a great and exciting time together! Next week we will continue to play, sing and do crafts together to get to know each other before we start our regular activities, preschool and clubs again.
Primary school:
Class 1/2 came back from vacation highly motivated. The children who left for class 3 are of course sorely missed, but the many new children in the class fill the room to capacity: 23 children now attend the Zebra class. Now there are group tables. Who is quickest to listen attentively at a tidy workstation? The red, green, blue or yellow zebras?
The new teachers Clementia Mayoga (English), Mirka Huth (DaF) and Apaw Russell Adu (Science) were introduced and are looking forward to working in the class. Class teacher Ramona Klaes is now being supported by intern Lina. This week, the teachers and children got to know each other and learned what the names mean and what everyone's favorite activities are. Next week, the children will elect new class representatives. We are looking forward to a successful school year and to learning together.
Class 3/4 started an exciting first week on Monday. After the welcome party, we played games to get to know each other, set up class rules and went on a tour of the school before continuing with active and playful activities with the AG teachers in the afternoon. The new timetable started on Tuesday: We started with sports with Mr. Nana. We then learned our first German words and talked about our vacation experiences. We also got to know each other better in English. After the lunch break, the project time started: first we got to know Germany a little better before we were introduced to the projects and were able to choose a project for the time until the German Days in October. On Wednesday, we reviewed the subject matter from last year so that our new teachers could see where we could continue working. We continued in a similar vein on Thursday, ending the day with our first two project lessons. On Friday, we did a lot of math, got to know our first “settings” in English and found many things in the class council for which we are already grateful this week. Class teacher Laura Lützeler is very much looking forward to the coming school year 2024 with class 3/4.
Secondary school:
Welcome back. We have used this week to settle in, welcome new faces and rekindle old friendships. The welcome party was a great success and the secondary school enjoyed a team building session together. Year 5 and 6 have already elected class representatives and now that we are in secondary school, we are using our laptops and tablets regularly in class. We are looking forward to another exciting week and wish you a great weekend. Your 5th, 6th and 7th grade team.
