A Week of Announcements and New Beginnings
We started our week with a lively assembly, accompanied by great music from our in-house DJ, Mr. Bernard Mensah. Announcements included Saturdayโs project presentations, extended viewing time on Monday, and the official start of our new student projects.
We also reminded everyone of the importance of kindness and respect. Together with Kekeli, a small but meaningful change to our morning routine was introduced: from now on, there will be no football during arrival time. Instead, students will enjoy conversational games, board games, ping pong, and card games โ a fun and mindful way to start the day.
Day of the German Language โ Deutsch verbindet! ๐ฉ๐ช๐ฌ๐ญ
What a day! The โDay of the German Languageโ on the GISA campus was a wonderful success โ full of smiles, energy, and a vibrant program that truly showed how German connects people.
The event was opened by the Deputy German Ambassador, Ms. Sivine Jansen, who emphasized the role of German as a bridge between cultures โ a language of innovation, science, and cooperation.
Numerous institutions, language centers, and universities presented their work, including the Goethe-Institut, the German Embassy, the DAAD, and the German Protestant Church in Accra.
GISA itself drew great interest โ many visitors learned about German pedagogy, our admission process, and the ongoing Excellence Scholarship Programme, which runs until October 31. The School Support Association also showcased its work and welcomed new members.
A special highlight was the visit from the PASCH School Bezaleel Educational Complex from Sunyani, whose 11-hour journey to Accra was a strong symbol of dedication and connection to the German language.
GISA students showcased their creativity under the theme โDeutsch verbindetโ:
Primary students delighted the audience with fairy tales, a fashion show, rap performances, and a โword show,โ while secondary students presented projects such as comic design, game development, exploring castles, and even building a time machine!
The stage program featured music and literature: the Accragio Choir, the University of Cape Coast with an impressive rendition of Goetheโs Erlkรถnig, as well as the Accra Academy, Robert Memorial Complex, College St. Pierre Claver, and the UniMAC Institute of Languages.
A memorable highlight came from Martin Wilde of the Catholic Technical Institute Kumasi, who spoke about the connection between learning German and technical education in Ghana.
Guests enjoyed a welcoming atmosphere with coffee and cake in the Swiss Club Cafรฉ, while German classics like currywurst, sauerkraut, and sourdough bread added a taste of home. ๐ญ๐ฅจโ The celebration ended on a festive note with the GG Brass Band, whose lively rhythms kept spirits high well into the evening.
Once again, it became clear: German connects โ across cultures, generations, and continents. ๐

A big thank-you to everyone supporting our DIY recycling project by collecting plastic bottles.
The project has officially started, and every single bottle helps make our sustainable Christmas tree grow. Please keep collecting โ together, we make a difference!
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month ๐
At GISA, we are also joining the global effort to raise awareness. Our school nurse, Nancy Twieku, uses this month to educate our community about breast cancer, its risk factors, warning signs, and the importance of early detection.
Her message is clear: knowledge saves lives. Through information, open conversation, and regular check-ups, breast cancer can often be treated successfully.
For questions or personal advice, Nancy is available at:

Stay aware โ for yourself and for one another. ๐
Kindergarten and Nursery
This week, our nursery children started their new topic โAutumnโ. ๐ They created adorable hedgehog paintings using finger paints and forks โ a wonderful exercise for fine motor skills and creativity. ๐จ๐ฆ During morning circle time, new autumn-themed finger plays were introduced to support language development in a playful way. ๐๐
It was another lively and joyful week! ๐ We made beautiful St. Martinโs decorations ๐ฏ๏ธ๐โจ โ cutting, gluing, and sprinkling glitter everywhere.
In music, the children enjoyed a St. Martinโs sound story ๐ต๐ฅ, where they played instruments and took on small acting roles. Everyone loved it! ๐ญ
Our English Club with Rita ๐ฌ๐ง has also started! The children learned new English words such as book, table, pen, and chair, and joined in with great enthusiasm. ๐
Of course, we also spent plenty of time outside in the garden ๐ณโ๏ธ โ playing with sand toys ๐ชฃ, vehicles ๐, and enjoying the fresh air! On Friday, we wrapped up the week with a fun sports circuit ๐โโ๏ธ๐ช and active movement games โ a perfect way to start the weekend! ๐
Throughout the week, there was also lots of painting ๐จ, dancing ๐, and singing ๐ถ โ a cheerful, creative week full of laughter and joy! ๐ We wish all families a relaxing and happy weekend ๐โ๏ธ
Primary School

This week, the first parent-teacher meetings for Class 1/2 began and will continue weekly until the Christmas Market.
In mathematics, the children worked on a variety of tasks: Some practised number decomposition, others worked on bridging over ten, while some learned to bundle tens. Others extended calculation chains following patterns or were already adding tens and ones.
In science, we started our new topic โForcesโ โ exploring how pushing and pulling can make an object move or stop.
The children discussed examples of objects that can be pushed or pulled and explained the difference: pulling moves something towards us, while pushing moves it away.
In ethics, the children reflected on what they can do when they feel angry. They collected a wide range of non-violent ideas โ some take deep breaths, some move quickly, others balance on one leg like a flamingo or even tap the table gently to calm down.
Reminder for parents: The class trip will go to the Aburi Botanical Garden. Please send the required amount of money with your child as soon as possible. Thank you!
Class 3 โ Dissolving and Filtering
After receiving feedback on their test, the children showed excellent results. We then started our new science topic, โDissolving and Filteringโ.
Key concepts included soluble and insoluble substances, as well as transparent and opaque materials.
It was wonderful to see how actively the children discussed and found many examples of soluble and insoluble materials. The absolute highlight was the filtration experiment โ hands-on, exciting, and highly educational. A great success โ full of curiosity, learning, and fun! ๐งช๐
Class 4 โ The Science of Medicine
The fourth graders also received their test feedback and then began a new topic in health education: โMedicines and their proper use.โ
We focused on the importance of correct dosage when one is ill. The children learned that there are many different kinds of medicines and that it is crucial to always follow instructions carefully to get well. ๐๐ฉโโ๏ธ
Secondary School
It was another diverse and exciting week! In mathematics (Class 5), students began working on statistics and probability, focusing on mode and median.
In English, they were introduced to different sentence types, while in French they practised on the Active Floor โ which was great fun! ๐ซ๐ท
The highlight of the week was the fire workshop with the Ghana Mountaineers ๐ฅ during history class on the Stone Age โ an engaging, hands-on journey back in time!
In science-biology, students explored different branches of biology and presented their findings with enthusiasm and teamwork.
We concluded by discussing why studying biology is so important โ it helps us understand both ourselves and the world around us, from the tiniest microbes to the largest ecosystems.
This week, Class 6 had the opportunity to join Class 5 for an exciting German lesson. Together, we explored the topic of picture description and exchanged many creative ideas.
In our own German lessons, we started a new topic: discussion and argumentation. Building on what we already knew, we identified the first key features of forming arguments โ an exciting beginning to a topic that will surely accompany us many times in the future!
In mathematics, we focused on the Sieve of Eratosthenes, a fascinating method for finding prime numbers. We also began working with fractions โ learning how to recognize parts of a whole, represent them visually, and place fractions on a number line.
In ethics, we continued our exploration of media, discussing the opportunities and risks that come with digital communication.
In history, creativity was in full swing! After watching the film โThe Caveโ, we designed our own caves and cave paintings inspired by Stone Age art.
During art lessons, we drew inspiration from Alexa Feserโs song โMutโ (Courage). The first sketches of our personal interpretations of courage have already been created and will be further developed next week. With our โcourageous artworks,โ we plan to participate in the competition โShow Us What Courage Looks Like!โ organized by the Academy for Innovative Education and Management in Heilbronn.
In HTW (Crafts and Technology), we continued working on our sketches and started implementing our nail art projects.
And even in physical education, we faced a new challenge: learning our first handstands โ not easy, but full of fun, laughter, and great team spirit! ๐คธโโ๏ธ๐
In biology of class 7/8, we focused on our largest sensory organ โ the skin! Through three fascinating experiments, the students discovered how sensitive and versatile our skin really is โ a true wonder of nature! ๐ง ๐๏ธ
The seventh graders worked in expert groups on types of angles (vertical, adjacent, corresponding, and alternate), while the eighth graders created colourful math posters on reflections, translations, point symmetries, and congruence โ a creative way to make geometry come alive!
In geography, we started the new topic โEnergyโ. After discussing which human needs depend on electrical energy, the class divided into groups to research different energy sources โ from fossil to renewable ones. ๐๐๐ง๐พ
As part of our student competition, two wonderful small-group excursions took place:
One group visited Nima Market, returning with many impressions and videos, while the other danced joyfully on Independence Square โ full of music, happiness, and team spirit! ๐๐ฌ๐ญ
