๐ฃ GISA Easter Newsletter โ 17.04.2025 ๐ฃ

With todayโs newsletter, we wish everyone a wonderful two-week Easter break! ๐๏ธ
๐ The first day back at school will be Monday, May 5, 2025, following the regular schedule.
๐ซ Open Day at GISA โ A New Event Format
On Saturday, April 12, 2025, the German International School Accra (GISA) opened its doors to interested families, curious children, and committed partners. From 3 to 6 p.m., GISA presented itself not through a traditional school fair, but with a new event concept focused on high-quality educational work and a welcoming atmosphere for families wanting a detailed insight into life and learning at GISA.
With confidence and pedagogical spirit, GISA demonstrated how it lives the harmony between the German curriculum from Thuringia and the international Cambridge Programme โ a strong educational offering for both local and international students. ๐๐
๐น๏ธ Interactive Learning with the Active Floor
This week, our students got moving and learning at the same time with the Active Floor! ๐ฎโจ
Through interactive games projected on the floor, children were able to solve math puzzles, test their spelling, and move around all at once. The Active Floor combines physical activity with academic learning in a fun, dynamic way โ and the excitement in the room said it all!
Whether it's jumping to the right answer or racing through a language maze, this is learning 2.0 at its best! ๐๐๐
๐จ Teen Club: Batik Workshop Fun!
Last Saturday, the Teen Club had a fantastic time at our batik workshop! The children loved getting creative and designing their own colorful batik fabrics. Each piece was unique โ and we were truly impressed by their creativity! ๐๐๏ธ
๐ Cambridge Checkpoint Exams
We started the week with the Cambridge Checkpoint Exams โ English on Monday, Math on Wednesday, and Science on Thursday.
It was a new experience for our students, but our Cambridge teachers couldnโt be more proud of their performance. Their discipline and hard work really paid off!
The external examiner noted: โYour students are calm and respectful,โ โ a wonderful reflection of their dedication. ๐๐
One of GISAโs most cherished traditions was celebrated once again this year โ the great Easter Egg Hunt!
There was excitement, laughter, and joy as the children searched for their Easter baskets in the garden โ and each one even had a little surprise! ๐งบ๐

I feel honored to be part of this school community and look forward to making a positive impact as your school nurse.โ
๐ Looking Ahead โ Start of School Year 2026/27
After consultation with the Parents' Council, weโve set the start of the 2026/27 school year for Monday, August 17, 2026.
๐ The full vacation calendar will be confirmed and shared at a later date.Kindergarten and nursery:
This week in the nursery, we eagerly prepared for Easter! The children crafted wooden Easter bunnies using glitter glue. There was lots of gluing, painting, and laughing โ all while playfully training their fine motor skills. On Thursday, the big moment had arrived: together with the kindergarten children, we celebrated a cheerful Easter breakfast. We ate, talked, and laughed together โ a beautiful moment of community that brought joy to everyone.
But that wasnโt all โ after breakfast, a special surprise was waiting: the Easter Bunny had secretly made his way through the garden and hidden the childrenโs Easter baskets! With shining eyes and great excitement, the children went on the hunt โ and in each basket, they found a little gift.
This week in kindergarten, it almost felt like a little factory as we dyed Easter eggs for the whole school. The children were busy helpers! We also continued practicing our word cards in both German and English, sang โIch lieb den Frรผhlingโ and โI like the flowersโ, and shaped spring-themed figures with modeling clay. Thursday brought our delicious Easter buffet with both nursery and kindergarten, followed by the big Easter basket hunt.
During learning time, the children played an instrument quiz, where they had to name instruments and assign them to the correct body parts used to play them. We also painted Easter eggs using dice to decide which color and pattern to use โ a fun and creative twist!
In DaZ/DaF (German as a second/foreign language), we once again held a language circle. The children also told stories using magic dice and picture cards.
Primary school:
This week, Class 1/2 was in full Easter spirit. They made bunny ears, dyed eggs, and searched for Easter nests. It was an exciting week full of fun! Of course, we also did some serious work: students recorded puppet theater stories and practiced mental addition and subtraction in math โ each child working in their number range, either up to 20 or up to 100.
In English, Class 1/2 explored compound words and had fun creating new ones together. The children enjoyed discovering how words combine and what meanings they can create. Group exercises helped strengthen teamwork, as everyone shared their ideas and deepened their understanding. Feel free to ask your child about some of the fun words they discovered!
It was a short week for Class 3/4 as well. In Class 3 German lessons, weโre currently reading The Little Prince. We're working on reading comprehension and identifying key words and sentence parts to help students better grasp the main ideas of various chapters. After the break, Class 3 will begin their comparative VERA assessments in German.
In Class 4 German and for our German language learners, the focus this week was on rehearsing and recording Easter poems.
Class 3/4 is very excited to welcome back their class teacher, Laura Lรผtzeler, after the holidays. German lessons for Class 4 will be taught by Angie Mamodaly for the remainder of the school year.
Secondary school:
This week was, of course, all about the Cambridge Checkpoint Tests. After the holidays, we will take time to reflect on the process and discuss how everything went. A big compliment already goes to the participating students for their effort and focus!
In German, our โsynchronization filmโ projects were finalized. That means we didnโt just write and record the dialogues and soundtracks โ we also edited everything together on the computer. It was a fascinating task that required patience and precision. The finished videos are saved on the studentsโ laptops in Class 6. If needed, we can definitely share a copy.
Our marble mazes are now finished and some have already been tested. The creativity was endless, and each maze is unique and imaginative. Now itโs time for all students to try each otherโs mazes and evaluate them in terms of craftsmanship, functionality, and creativity.
We wrapped up our basketball unit in PE this week with a fun Streetball tournament on Wednesday. In Class 5 Math, we're working on angles and circles. A test will follow shortly after the break.
Class 7 focused entirely on their Cambridge Checkpoints this week, so regular classes were paused. However, there was still time to watch and discuss an exciting and solution-oriented documentary about climate change. We wish all our students the best of luck with their results.
Happy Easter and wonderful holidays from Class 7!
