DSC9071Our well-attended and attractive Christmas market took place on Saturday, 23 November 2020. Here is a richly illustrated review. Many thanks to all the helping hands!

All grades 3 - 7 were travelling this week. Whether the destination was Goma Fetteh, Ko-Sa or Mole, the children were able to gain exciting, creative and social experiences that they will be able to draw on for a long time to come.

We would like to celebrate St Nicholas Day on 5 December with a joint breakfast with grades 1-7, as the actual St Nicholas Day on 6 December is free of lessons due to Farmer's Day. We would be delighted if all parents could bring something delicious 🥐🧇🥨🥖🍗🧈🥞🥚🍉🍉🍍🥑 for everyone to share. There will be a list outside the library for you to sign up.

There will also be a concert at the Swiss Club on 5 December at 7pm. O'Brolenkpe is an amateur cover band made up of teachers from Lincoln Community School. They were founded in 2020, and what they may lack in talent, they make up for in enthusiasm. The unique line-up (bass guitar, 12-string acoustic guitar, drums, ukulele and banjo) makes for a unique sound that is sometimes augmented by horns and guest musicians. Among the artists O'Brolenkpe covers are Tom Petty, Van Morrison, the Beatles and Cat Stevens.

The Ukes of Hazard are an amateur ukulele ensemble also made up of teachers from Lincoln Community School. Many members have little or no experience playing instruments, but when it comes to having fun, they consistently score high marks! Artists the Ukes have covered include Cyndi Lauper and The Bangles.

Sustainability at the German International School Accra

Sustainability is very important to us! In cooperation with Sika Plastic Recycling, we are committed to recycling waste. From the new year, Sika Plastic will be collecting emptied PET bottles, drinking water sachets, waste paper and shredded paper at DISA on the last Friday of every month. For every kilo of recycled materials, DISA will receive 2 GHS (2,000 GHS per tonne), which will be invested in sustainability, maintenance and renovations at DISA. You can support us by bringing these materials to our labelled collection point. Please make sure that bottles are emptied beforehand. If you have any questions, please contact the administration! 🌍♻️

20241129 1008412Today was the last day of work for caretaker James Aboka, who has worked for the school since 1998 and is now going into well-deserved retirement, and administrative assistant Agnithur Amponsah Boateng, who is taking up a new challenge at a German institution. Many thanks to and all the best for both of them!

Kindergarten and nursery:

KrippeThis week in the nursery, we have been designing Christmas presents out of salt dough and making beautiful Christmas cards with lots of joy and creativity. The results are beautiful - you'll be surprised! There was a special occasion to celebrate on Friday: a child turned 2 years old. We celebrated her birthday together with games, songs and a delicious birthday cake.

In addition, the Christmas spirit has finally arrived. We listened to and sang Christmas carols and were delighted to receive letters from our Christmas elves. As we still had some gingerbread left over from the Christmas market, we were able to get creative again and decorate and eat some gingerbread. During learning time this week, we were able to try out different instruments and play rhythms. We also continued to work on the numbers from 1 to 10. We counted, recognised number pictures and assigned numbers and their quantities to each other. In the ‘English Club’ this week, the advanced children learnt more of the initial sounds. This time there was a step up, because now two letters are strung together. The correct answer had to be found and circled out of 3 possible answers. This week, the book ‘The wizard of Oz’ was read together with the beginners. Afterwards, the book was discussed and questions were answered. On Friday, we made little farewell presents for Agnithur and Mr James and then said goodbye to them together with the schoolchildren in the school playground. Both had their last day with us at GISA today.

exploring the properties of geometric solids. Geometric solids were searched for and sorted in the school playground. To go with this, there was new geometric play material that we were able to try out in a workshop organised by bamzozo. We were given great tips on how to use the material. Creative writing also went really well again - we created some super exciting stories about vampires, bullies and chaotic children.

Class trip class 3/4

1000064939We set off shortly after 8am on Wednesday. Everyone was super excited. Before we arrived at our accommodation, the Sunflower Beach Resort, we made a short stopover at the Fort of Good Hope in Senya Beraku and learnt a bit about the history of Ghana and the slave trade.

After about an hour, we continued on to our accommodation for the next two days. Once there, we had lunch - hot dogs with chips. Afterwards, we tried to open Mr Sunflower's treasure, which was found centuries ago. To do this, we had to find lots of sunflowers and put them together in various puzzles to get the code for the treasure chest. After about two hours, we finally made it and were able to open the treasure. The treasure chest contained Fanta, lollies for everyone and our new class pet - a green triceratops called Dino.

Afterwards, we all went to the beach together and were able to put our feet in the water before coming back for dinner. We had a variety of rice and chicken for dinner.

After dinner, we wanted to make a campfire. But as it took a little longer to get it going, we told each other stories. When the fire finally lit up, we grilled some marshmallows and then went to bed, exhausted.

The next morning started early. At around six o'clock, the first children started their own morning sports around our houses and everyone was wide awake. We still had time to play and chat because breakfast wasn't until eight o'clock. We had pancakes, eggs, bread, fruit, Milo, tea and water for breakfast. So we could all start the day energised. After breakfast, we went to the beach again to see where the fishing boats are made. Unfortunately, no work was being done there. So we took a class photo and went back. Once we arrived at the Sunflower Beach Resort, we put our feet in the sea again and helped a group of children bring their fishing net ashore. That was quite exhausting. Afterwards we had time to relax a bit - some children played games or chatted in their rooms. Some children made bracelets or party decorations for the evening.

Then we had lunch - burgers with chips. After lunch, we did a batik workshop under palm trees. First we chose a stamp and then we used it to make wax on white fabric. Everyone could personalise their fabric. Then we decided on a colour and dyed the fabric. Finally, it was washed and dried in the meadow. Unfortunately, it wasn't completely dry by the evening. After we had presented our fabrics to our classmates, we had dinner: Jollof, fried rice with chicken, fish or sausages.
After dinner, we started our party. We laughed, danced and played a lot of stop dancing. Then we went to bed and it was quiet in the rooms much quicker than the day before.

Everything was still quiet on Friday morning at 6am. Many children slept longer today and some were already busy packing before breakfast. Around eight o'clock we had breakfast and then we all packed our things, tidied up and took our batik fabrics. After that we were able to set off for school again.

When we arrived at school, we had lunch and after lunch we had an ice cream together before our parents picked us up. We were super tired but also super happy. It was a great school trip and we all got to know each other in a completely different way and strengthened our class community gestärkt❤️.

Secondary school:

On Monday in German class 5, some process descriptions for Christmas crafts were completed.

Why don't you try it yourself? The handicraft instructions lead to wonderful Christmas decorations. Good luck and have a good start to the pre-Christmas period!

Year 7 class trip to Mole National Park

7 d7 cFrom Sunday, 24 November to Thursday, 28 November, we, the 7th grade of the German International School in Accra, went on an unforgettable school trip to Mole National Park. The week was filled with exciting safaris, cultural insights and plenty of adventure.

Day 1: Travelling and arriving

Our journey began on Sunday with a flight from Accra to Tamale. From there, we travelled by trotro and then by safari car to our Belgha Hostel. After arriving, we spent a relaxing afternoon playing games before going to bed early after dinner to be fit for the day ahead.

Day 2: Animal observations and culture

7 b7 cOn Monday, we set off early for a two-hour morning safari. Although we saw antelopes, warthogs, monkeys and lots of birds, the much-anticipated encounter with an elephant did not materialise at first. After breakfast came the exciting news: an elephant had been spotted at the waterhole! Thrilled, we made our way back and observed the majestic giant at close quarters. In the afternoon, we visited the oldest mosque in West Africa in Larabanga and enjoyed a beautiful sunset on the way back.

Day 3: Relaxation and excitement

After a good night's sleep, our Tuesday started with a delicious breakfast of pancakes and eggs. We spent the day at the Mole Motel pool overlooking the waterhole - a wonderful place to play, read and relax. Things got exciting when baboons tried to steal our lunch! In the evening we went on an exciting night safari. We saw crocodiles, bush babies and even two hyenas - an absolute highlight! The starry sky was breathtaking and we ended the day with ‘Red Red’ and games.

7 e7 fDay 4: Nature and traditions

On Wednesday, we went on a canoe trip through the river near Mognori Village, where we observed many bird species. We then explored the village: we learnt about the production of shea butter, spoke to a traditional medicine man and enjoyed the view from the roof of a local house. In the afternoon, we went on a walking safari, during which the flora of the national park was explained to us. We saw crocodiles and elephant tracks - a perfect end to our last full day.

Day 5: Journey home

On Thursday it was time to say goodbye to Mole National Park. After a final safari car ride, we travelled back to Tamale, where we had lunch before the flight took us back to Accra.

The class trip was an impressive experience that gave us the beauty of nature, exciting cultural insights and unforgettable moments. A big thank you to everyone who made this trip possible!
